Message from the Student Services Team

 

It is hard to believe the Fall semester is almost over! As you prepare for your final exams or get ready to turn in your papers, don't hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have regarding graduation, registration, OPT, Coop or anything else. We are here to help!

 

The GSE Student Services team holds office hours Mon-Fri from 2-4pm or by appointment. Our offices are located in 130 Snell.

Remember to plan and register for your Spring 2013 classes. Online registration for continuing students opened on November 13, 2012.

 

A reminder about our videostreaming courses policy: those courses are only open to part-time students. However, full-time students may petition to register for an online course. Special circumstances supporting the request must be clearly stated and petitions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

 

If you plan on graduating this term, remember to complete the application to graduate via your MyNEU account. You may also have received an email requesting you to submit certain documents to our office. Please do so as soon as you can. 

 

The Spring 2013 term begins January 2013. It is expected that you will return from Winter Break in time to attend the first week of classes.

11/13/2012: Spring registration for continuing students opened

12/20/2012: Last day to upload thesis/dissertation to Proquest publishing                    system

12/24/12-01/02/13: Winter Break - GSE office closed

01/07/2013: First day of Spring 2013 classes

01/20/2013: Last day to add a class

01/21/2013: Martin Luther King Jr. Day, NEU Holiday. GSE office closed

01/28/2013: Last day to drop a class with a full tuition refund

02/18/2013: President's Day, NEU Holiday. GSE office closed

02/19/2013: Summer registration for continuing students opens.

COE in the News

Starting in Spring 2013 the Northeastern University Seattle campus will offer two engineering hybrid programs: Engineering Management and Energy System. The programs consist of a balance of online lectures and face-to-face meetings. Find out more here

Funding opportunities

  • Virginia Tech Interdisciplinary Research Traineeships for Biologists and Engineers in  Multi-Scale Transport in Physiological and Environmental Systems (MultiSTEPS) is offering a competitive Research Traineeship. Information available here. Applications for Fall 2013 are due by December 31, 2012.
  • The DOE Scholars Program offers unique opportunities that introduce students or post-graduates to the agency's mission and operations. Participants in the DOE Scholars Program gain a competitive edge as they apply their education, talent and skills in a variety of scientific research settings within the DOE complex. Appointments are available in a variety of disciplines at participating DOE facilities nationwide. The DOE Scholars Program presents you with the opportunity to explore a federal career with DOE at various stages in your education. Applications due January 4, 2013.
  • The  Office of Naval Research is currently offering: 
  1. The Office of Naval Research (ONR) Young Investigator Program (YIP). Proposals due January 4, 2013.
  2. Special Program Announcement for the Office of Naval ResearchProposals due January 17, 2013.  
  • The National Science Foundation announced the following funding opportunity: Software Infrastructure for Sustained Innovation. More Information available here. Proposals are due February 4, 2013.

New in the country and looking to improve your written and spoken English skills? Visit the Global Student Success Website and sign up for a variety of workshops and tutoring open to all NEU students.

 

Writing your thesis, dissertation or a mid-term paper? The library offers in-person or online support to help you deliver a stellar paper.

 

Drop by the Northeastern University Career Services Center. They offer a wide selection of workshops designed specifically for graduate and/or international students to help you be successful in your professional career. Or make a one-on-one appointment to discuss your specific needs. 

 

Feeling blue and not sure who to talk to? Want to talk to a professional about something that is on your mind? Contact University Health and Counseling Services with your questions and they will direct you to the right person.

 

The International Student and Scholar Institute (ISSI) offers many resources to international students and organizes multicultural event throughout the academic year.

 

As you exercise your brain, remember to exercise your body too! Campus Recreation is your fitness answer.
