The ARTS at Marks & Hawaii Academy of Performing Arts present

HI Tides

July 30 through August 31, 2013

The arts are good at getting attention and even better when they call attention for a good cause!

artwork by Chad Steve - High Tide Floats
Join us for our newest exhibit, HI Tides! Water is the life-blood of the earth. Without our oceans, rivers, lakes and ponds, life on Earth would be impossible. HI Tides is a themed exhibit at calling attention to the aesthetic, ecological, practical and recreational value of our surf, our waterways, and our coastlines. The value of water is rising astronomically and the battle for clean water has begun. After careful deliberation by our guest juror, Jaimey Hamilton Faris, Asst. Professor of Art History, Director of Intersections/ Visiting Artist program at University of Hawaii at Manoa, we have selected the top twenty-two entries to be showcased.

The ARTS at Marks Garage presents its opening reception for HiTides with a Surf-Tastic Rock Party honoring our ocean and the aesthetic, ecological, practical and recreational value of our Surf. Presented in partnership with The Surfrider Foundation, this event will feature Surf Rock and original tunes by Mano Kane, Surf Themed drink specials including Kona Brew Longboard and Fire Rock Pale Ale. Dress ready to cruise the beach and enjoy art, Surf footage, music and dance! Don't miss out as we present one lucky artist from our HiTides Exhibit, with $250 and an exhibition opportunity at The ARTS at Marks.

The BAR at Marks will be open! All proceeds to benefit Hawaii Academy of Performing Arts.

HI Tides hopes to open the community's eyes to the environment around us. For more information, please call us at (808) 521-2903 or email us at info@artsatmarks.com.

Timon opens his house and his coffers to his friends, but when the well runs dry, who will return his favors? Shakespeare based the character of Timon on a historical figure, a noted misanthropist, and asked himself what could cause someone to turn his back on all mankind? This production, in a Hawaii Shakespeare Festival first, uses gender-blind casting.

As You Like It includes cross-dressing, family feuds, a Roman God of Marriage, homoeroticism, dance and song, love-at-first-sight, and is one of Shakespeare's most celebrated comedies. As You Like It shows how the life-affirming spirit of love, reconciliation, self-knowledge, wisdom and the goodness of Nature can triumph over blind fortune and injustice. Instead of the denouement, marriage is the ultimate climax of love; As You Like It confirms marriage as an institution, along with the return of civilization's other institutions, made possible not by the forest, but by the natural goodness in us all.
