Legislative Chair Laurie Crigler continues to monitor action by the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation DPOR that could eliminate continuing education for the plumbing, HVAC and fuel trades. A meeting on the subject is scheduled for April 8 in Richmond.
On a companion subject, legislation that would have reconciled the terms for trades licenses and code cycles has been referred by the Governor to DPOR for review. A recommendation should be issued by November 1.

Apprenticeship Competitions (Plumbing and HVAC)
|
There are only 10 slots available for third and fourth year apprentices in the annual Apprenticeship Competition scheduled for May 16 at Virginia Beach. Apprentices can enter on their own or through recommendation by instructors or employers. According to participants from earlier competitions, the experience is challenging and entertaining and the benefits are remarkable.
Details are still being developed, but make note of the fact that an HVAC Apprentice Competition will be held in conjunction with the CONNECT 2013, October 16-19, 2013, at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. To be kept informed about details, including identifying competition candidates, contact Susan Milhoan.
