Board Updates

You will read more about new PMPV Board members Randy Baldwin and Jason Richard in the upcoming issue of Image.  In the meantime,  welcome them to their new roles as chairs of the Communications Committee and the Education and Training Committee, respectively.  We are delighted to have them aboard.

Please also recognize the long service and dedication of Jody Hibbs who has been acting as PMPV Executive Director.  She is knowledgeable, personable and totally capable.  She may be leaving the position, but not PMPV.

Legislative Update

Legislative Chair Laurie Crigler reports that dozens of letters and emails were submitted to the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) last month in response to a proposed Notice of Intended Regulatory Action  (NOIRA) that could eliminate mandatory CEUs (continuing education units) for plumbing, gas and HVAC contractors.  The association thanks those who submitted comments...all of which were articulate and supportive of preserving the requirement. A DPOR meeting to review the suggested change is scheduled for April 8 and will be followed by a 60-day comment period.

Good News

Thanks are in order to Delegate Bob Tata (Virginia Beach) who introduced legislation (HB1645) regarding changing the license renewal period for Tradesmen (plumbing, HVAC, electrical and gas fitters) from the current two-year period to a three-year period, reconciling differences in budget and code cycles. The measure gained Senate approval and now awaits the Governor's signature.
Golf Anyone?
Plans are being finalized for the May 15 PMPV Golf Tournament on May 15 at Kempsville Greens (Virginia Beach).  Play will begin with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.  Dinner, prizes and awards will follow.

Foursome and individual spots are available, as are a variety of branding opportunities. Check out the  2013 PMPV Tournament brochure or contact Susan Milhoan, but don't miss out by waiting too long!
Apprenticeship Program
There is still time to register third and fourth year apprentices in the annual Apprenticeship Competition scheduled for May 16 at Virginia Beach.  Justin Duke, who won first place in the 2012 Virginia competition and earned second place in national competition, shares his experience in the upcoming issue of Image.  "There were so many advantages to participating in this competition that not competing would be a waste of an unbelievable opportunity to show what you have learned and experienced as an apprentice plumber," he says.

Feel free to print and share the 2013 Plumbing Apprentice Competition brochure.  For more information, contact Jim Steinle or Jason Richard.
