From Your Hot Flash Havoc Team
May your Holidays be simply WARM, Full of Peace & Love & Joy, And free of Holiday Havoc! |
|
Dear Flashers,
You are the spirit of your holidays so here are my "Heidi Tips" to keep your spirits intact:
- Organize and Plan: You know what works for you and what doesn't. So do the things that you are comfortable with and don't worry about the extra stuff.
- Surround yourself with people you love: Family and friends and if they can't make it ... invite someone who needs some love.
- Enjoy the Journey: The good thing with the stress of the holidays is that it's predictable ... We know exactly when it will start and when it will finish. We just have to organize ourselves to maintain our humor and enjoy the in between.
Have the greatest of Holidays!

Research on HRT and Hearth Disease
IF This information is really important for all of you who have been told that hormones cause heart disease. We now have a study DOPS that is truly randomized using HRT to determine how it affects the health of women using HRT. Once again the WHI put out wrong information from a study that was not randomized and scared women around the world. I am Happy to present studies that actually present the real information that so many of us need for our best aging health.
DOPS was a randomized trial in women who were on average 50 years old and 7 months postmenopausal when randomized to HRT------------- the very women started on HRT.
"DOPS is the only prospective longitudinal randomized trial designed to examine clinical outcomes among women who were specifically a priori randomized to HRT in the perimenopausal/early postmenopausal period. When randomized to DOPS, women were on average 50 years old and 7 months postmenopausal and there is no comparable cohort or outcome data available for comparison from any other randomized trial. Women were randomized for 10 years (~10,000 women-years of randomization), the longest randomized duration than any randomized trial examining clinical outcomes resulting from HRT in women on average 50 years old. Subsequent to randomized treatment, the women were followed for another 6 years for a total follow-up of 16 years (~16,000 women-years of follow-up).
DOPS provides long-term longitudinal randomized trial data in a cohort of women, namely, the very women who are normally treated, for which no data previously existed and thus, directly informs women and health-care providers of the long-term effects of HRT after initiation in close proximity to menopause, especially in regards to breast cancer, CVD and total mortality. In addition, unlike other large-scale long-term randomized HRT trials of efficacy and safety, no participants were lost to follow-up (2 women were censored at the time of emigration) in DOPS that had nearly 100% ascertainment of outcome events over 10 years of randomized follow-up and 16 years of total follow-up using the Danish civil registration system and the Danish national hospital discharge register. Finding significant effects in small groups underscores the clinical relevance for efficacy in reducing CVD and total morality and lack of harmful effects on breast cancer and stroke."
Conclusions: After 10 years of randomized treatment, women receiving hormone replacement therapy early after menopause had a significantly reduced risk of mortality, heart failure, or myocardial infarction, without any apparent increase in risk of cancer, venous thromboembolism, or stroke.

"Cool" Garments for "Hot" Women! Here's a little Holiday special introduction to someone very special to us who has truly turned Lemons into Lemonade. Haralee Weintraub featured in movie Hot Flash Havoc, having gone into early menopause as result of breast cancer, Haralee experienced one of the most extreme cases of night sweats and hot flashes possible. What did she do about it? Well, she started her own business to help other women with a genuine new and genius line of sleepwear ... Cool Garments for Hot Women. When night sweats prompted Haralee Weintraub to launch a women's sleepwear line seven years ago, a business adviser cautioned her against selling the garments as a way to deal with menopause. Good thing she didn't heed the advice, she showcases the often hush-hush topic. "For Menopause Symptoms" appears in capital red letters on the company's website, and is responsible for 90 % of its revenue from those who are HOT. The niche retailer, also named Haralee, sells pajamas and nightgowns made from lightweight fabric meant to soak up sweat. In Weintraub's words: "Every now and then, I get people who say, 'Am I still going to get night sweats?' It's not going to cure night sweats. All it's going to do is make you sleep better." As more and more baby boomers head into menopause, it's tapping a growing -- and increasingly tech-savvy -- market. It registers many of its sales in the middle of the night, presumably from customers hunting for a way to get a good night's sleep. "I just bless 'The View,'" she said. "They're always talking about hot flashes and I have the clothes and fabrics that help." A breast cancer survivor who spent more than two decades in pharmaceutical sales, Weintraub launched the company in 2005 after sewing the first prototype from an old pair of bike shorts.
