Pathway life-long learners are boosting brainpower and having fun.
"How to" e-mail and Skype lessons from a Concordia University grad student are helping Victory Centre of River Woods residents stay connected and mentally sharp too. After many years, Ron Douglas re-connected with his California brother through e-mail, and the two now share photos regularly.
Three Amigos
It's a fiesta when the Spanish Clubs meet at Victory Centres of Bartlett and Park Forest. They've discovered that learning to speak Spanish is more fun when you also explore the food, music and dress of Spanish-speaking countries with your amigos (friends!).
Signing to Song
Seniors at Victory Centre of Park Forest learned a new, creative way to express their love. Using American Sign Language, they performed the adorable "I Love You" song. Watch here.
Tickling the Ivories
| "I'm regaining my feel for playing the piano!" says Willie (right), who is now teaching residents like Virgie Wilson how to play. |
Willie Taylor spent more than half her life playing and teaching piano. As the musician at Friendship Baptist Church, Willie set the tune for the glorious gospel music sung by parishioners. Illness ended that gig, and Willie thought she was done playing. Then she met a group of others passionate about singing and gospel music at Victory Centre of South Chicago, and Willie got her groove back!
