Folks at Victory Centre of Roseland are hoping to deliver sweet dreams to the women and children served by a local shelter sponsored by Roseland Christian Ministries. You can help promote a good night's sleep by donating new pajamas for women, infants and children and new or slightly used books. Items are being collected now through September 25 and can be dropped off at the reception desk at Victory Centre of Roseland, located at 10450 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago. For more information, call 773-468-6400.

A competitor challenged Pathway Senior Living to accept the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Pathway leaders accepted the challenge to raise money and spread awareness for ALS while raising the stakes. In addition to making a donation to ALS, Pathway leaders got wetter than most! Ever hear the saying, "Go jump in a lake?" Watch video.

Pathway's Got Talent
| |
Pathway's Summerfest Concert, "Celebrating Our Seniors," brought nearly 300 residents from all 12 Chicago area communities together for a live concert. The band "Lynn's Review" played hits from Motown, gospel, classic and rock-and-roll. The music had seniors grooving in their seats and dancing in the aisles! Best yet, the show featured Pathway's own talent with team member, Marsha, who organized the event, singing lead for her band. Team member Janette sang, "Crazy," and Park Forest resident Larry sang, "You Are So Beautiful." See snippets of Pathway's performers . Watch video.

O'Brien Says it Best
Alexian Village resident Margaret O'Brien took 2nd place in the Affordable Assisted Living Coalition's Testimonial Contest with these eloquent words:
"The staff here changed my life and welcomed me into their family. There is always so much to do to keep my brain cells working at this very important stage in my life. Love it!"
|
Picture Perfect!
Alexian Village's photo "Out to Sea" took 3rd place out of more than 220 photos in the Affordable Assisted Living Coalition's annual Photo Contest. In the picture, "sailors" resident Violet Russell and staff member Tamara Blockson are waving and paddling at Camp VIVA!

What's New at Camp VIVA?
Fishing, hiking and boating are Camp VIVA! staples, but this year for the first time campers got to try their hand at archery and spend time with chickens!
The campfire menu also featured new "specials" like campers stew and banana boats, ooey gooey concoctions featuring grilled bananas topped with marshmallows and chocolate chips.
Singing camp songs around the fire accompanied by a guitar and drums capped off a perfect day in the wild. See more photos.

ArtPath on Wheels
Artwork created by Pathway residents will be rolling down the street soon on the sides of a Pathway community bus that will serve the south suburbs. Pathway seniors from Victory Centres of Park Forest, Sierra Ridge, Joliet and River Oaks got together to create an original painting to adorn the sides of the bus. Inspired by the artwork of modern abstract painter Chris Johanson, they painted a vibrant field of color. Drivers won't miss this bright bus cruising down the street! |
