Men Age Well and Live Well in Assisted Living
|
Today, men are living longer and many are reaching an advanced age where a little help with daily living can be a good thing. Lucky for these guys, assisted living options are now more gender-friendly and attractive than ever before. In fact, in keeping with this growing trend, men make up half of the residents at Pathway's Victory Centre of Galewood supportive living community in Chicago!

Richard is comfortable in front of a crowd whether leading a scrabble game or singing an uplifting song. Since moving to Victory Centre of Bartlett in January with his wife Gail, Richard has become quite popular. A former pastor and missionary, Richard regularly shares his spiritual side with others by leading inspirational talks and songs at the community. He is also a member of Bartlett's Wii Bowling and Trivia teams.
Both natives of Connecticut, Richard and Gail met at age three in Sunday school and began dating in their teens. Richard's work in the printing business brought him, Gail and their three children to Germany for awhile and eventually to Wheaton, IL, for a job with a Christian publisher.

Plenty of Good Men!
This month we're shining the spotlight on a few of the many good men living at Pathway Senior Living communities. Outdoorsy, sensitive, sporty--our guys have it going on!
Wild Side
On Pathway's annual Camp VIVA! day trips, many men took this year's theme, "Explore Your Wild Side!" to heart. Some went paddle boating, fishing, hiking, and swimming while others got "wild" around the campfire. Click here to see more Camp VIVA! photos

Father and Son "Grill Masters"
As Pathway's Director of Business Solutions, Kevin is usually crunching numbers, not cooking over a campfire. However, Kevin with the help of son Brandon--an Eagle Scout--manned the grill for three days of Pathway's Camp VIVA! day camp. Together, they fed burgers and hotdogs to over 100 Pathway campers. Kevin spiced up the menu with mushrooms and onions, while Brandon surprised the campers with Dutch oven apple and cherry cobblers.

Cliff and his great-grandson "Little" Cliff are quite the pair. More than a name, the two "Cliffs" share a special bond. Four-year-old Little Cliff spends quite a bit of time with his great-granddad, who lives at Age Well in Green Bay, while his mom runs errands. The "Cliffs" like to head to the nearby park with Little Cliff's scooter or go to Wal-Mart for treats and toys.

Rudolph or "Rudy" as folks like to call him keeps super busy at Victory Centre of Sierra Ridge. Pitching in wherever needed is a trait that likely stems from the years he spent working on the family farm in Michigan, tending to the crops, pigs and chickens. Today Rudy waters the community's Victory garden and helps the dining staff by delivering the daily bread order. Rudy has a youthful spirit and is open to new experiences like playing the drums and leading the community's drumming circles. "I don't want to sit down and be bored!" says the upbeat Rudy.
