Spring welcomes the green, but at Pathway, "green" living is good living every day!

Green Thumbs Up!
Like clockwork each fall, Audrey brought her flowers indoors to keep them alive and blooming under a lamp in the basement until being replanted in the spring. Last March, Audrey uprooted herself and moved to Oak Hill Supportive Living.
Audrey's huge collection of flowers and plants found a perfect home in the community's greenhouse! Here she visits her geraniums, orchids and houseplants to water them, give them a pat and watch them grow. "Like raising children, it's a good feeling to see them develop the way they should," Audrey says.
In May, the flora will leave the constant 68 degree temperature of the greenhouse for the real world when they are moved outdoors for all to enjoy.

Ray of Sunshine
Summer felt like it arrived early at Alexian Village's Beach Party Day! Residents and staff at some Pathway communities cured their "Cabin Fever" by hosting a week of fun events like Pajama Day, Spa Day and Hawaiian Day. Click here to see more photos.

Wee Bit Irish
Everyone is a wee bit Irish on St. Patrick's Day. From Irish dancers to corned beef and cabbage dinners with beer, Pathway seniors celebrated the "green" holiday with shenanigans fit for a leprechaun.

New Life for Old Bags
Pathway seniors are helping keep plastic bags out of landfills by repurposing them in a very practical way for the benefit of those less fortunate. The national "New Life for Old Bags" program gives seniors a way to contribute locally while helping to save planet Earth! Seniors start by turning used plastic bags into strings of "plarn," which is then crocheted into sleeping mats for the homeless.

Green Cleaning
The "green" microfiber cleaning system used by Pathway is more earth-friendly than the usual bucket-and-mop method. For starters, it uses less cleaning product to get the job done. The cleaning solution contains up to 75 percent less chemicals compared to traditional cleaning products for fresher air. The microfiber system also cuts water use from mopping a whopping 95 percent! What's more, the microfiber mops and clothes can be cleaned and reused up to 500 times each, reducing landfill waste and Pathway's environmental footprint.

Why It's Good to Eat Green
|
Chef Betsy Robinson, Regional Director of Dining Services for Pathway Senior Living, shares Pathway kitchen tips on how to help your family make "green" food choices that are good for them and the earth. Read more.

Getting to the root of what being "green" is all about, Pathway residents and staff plant and care for vegetable gardens at their communities.
Since First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt's Victory Gardens during World War II inspired a nation to get planting, Pathway adopted the "Victory Garden" name to evoke some inspiration from the past while following the good gardening example of today's First Lady Michelle Obama. Victory Gardens inspire a "greener" hands-on lifestyle for today's older adults by promoting healthier eating and living.
