Unconditional "Doggie" Love

The residents and staff at Oak Hill Supportive Living Community in Round Lake Beach welcomed their first community pooch when they recently adopted 4-year-old lab mix, Nitra. Pathway's canine companion program, "See Spot Retire," offers older dogs new lives and affords residents meaningful relationships and unconditional affection.
"I think Nitra's just great!" says Oak Hill resident Louise Jankowiak, a lifelong dog owner who can no longer care for her own pet. "I just know that we are going to be best friends." Read more.

Groove with Zumba Gold

It's a dance party! Zumba Gold is based on a series of easy-to-follow dance moves choreographed to Latin music. Specially geared toward seniors and beginners, the "Gold" version is less intense than regular Zumba and can even be done seated in a chair.
The moves focus on improving balance, strength and flexibility, while raising your heart beat and improving cardiovascular ability. See a Pathway Zumba Gold class. Click here to watch Zumba Gold video.

Pathway seniors buckle up for adventure! The 2014 VIVA! World Tour has residents
at all 13
communities taking a "virtual exploration" of locations worldwide and in their own backyards. They're learning about world religions, obscure cultures and their local neighborhoods. Last year, the armchair travelers visited exotic locations like the land down under, Australia! Through activities, they sampled the language, food, music and scenery of various destinations and received a stamp in their passports for participation. Congratulations to Jan from Alexian Village who received a Target gift card for collecting the most passport stamps.

Leaders use guided techniques to bring the group to laughter. Benefits include a good mood, heart protection, better immunity, emotional connection and a positive attitude. "It helps people feel connected to each other," says Nerissa Walton, a resident at Pathway's Victory Centre of Joliet community. "If you laugh together, then you're comfortable together."
