BIG!Compost Community Partner Spotlight:  

Hour Children Food Pantry and LIC CSA  

When members of the LIC CSA (community supported agriculture) wanted to deepen the connection between local food and composting in the neighborhood, they partnered with BIG!Compost (then Western Queens Compost Initiative) to open a food scrap drop-off.  

That was 2012; over the past two years, the drop-off's hours expanded again and again. Now the Hour Children Food Pantry, which hosts the CSA, is offering BIG!Compost's first 24/7 public food scrap drop-off, located just outside of the pantry entrance off 11th street and 37th Avenue in Long Island City.

Abigael Burke, Hour Children Food Pantry Coordinator, has encouraged growth of the program: "Our partnership with BIG!Compost makes it easy for people to drop-off their food scraps."
