Transforming Lives Through the Power of the Human Voice

[Volume 3, Issue 21, May 22, 2013]

Greetings!
Kara and Beau
Kara falling in love with Beau

Life is full of surprises. I have always loved to take long morning walks and many of my best songs have appeared while walking along the river or taking a two hour walk through the forest.

So after months of exploring the question, should I get a new dog? Going through a zillion pros and cons, I decided the answer was YES and three days ago we picked up a beautiful Golden Retriever puppy.

So, here's to life!
I am a poet looking for adventure.

"If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours." Henry David Thoreau

Now many of you have heard about the law of attraction.

Creating your own vision board is a very practical way to attract more of what you want in your life and become consciously aware of what you don't want. There are many studies that when you graphically illustrate your hopes and visions it is increasing the likelihood that you will attract it.

In looking at my VISION BOARD my focus became clear. I saw that my path as an artist was to connect us back to the stories that uplift and heal. My work became easier, as I could no longer be swallowed by the doubt vortex. Writer's block disappeared and stage fright left the room.  Continue reading here ...

CREATE YOUR VISION BOARD

by Kara Johnstad

An artist is not paid for his labor but for his vision. James Whistler

We are creators. Creating songs. Creating articles. Creating blogs and podcasts. Day in and day out, we are creating fresh and new content.

So what should we do
when we fall into a doubt vortex?

We arrive at moments when we lose sight of where we want to go and start walking in circles.

We are struggling to stay in touch with the colors that move through us and doubt that we are on the right track.

business plan

In these moments it is always helpful

to have a vision board to look at.

My last word is that it all depends on what you visualize
Ansel Adams

A vision board is a great way to illustrate your dreams and increase the likelihood that you can get what you really wish for. It helps us get in touch and stay in touch,  with our big WHY and paint a picture of where we would really like to go.

Now many of you have heard about the law of attraction.

Creating your own vision board is a very practical way to attract more of what you want in your life and become consciously aware of what you don't want.

There are many studies that when you graphically illustrate your hopes and visions it is increasing the likelihood that you will attract it.

HOW TO CREATE A VISION BOARD?

THE BASICS

Get a piece of poster board, some glue, colorful pens, find magazines and pictures and quotes and start to cut out pictures and words that inspire you to be all that you would love to be.

Now this is the easiest and quickest way to work.

THE BASICS AND BEYOND

So a basic vision board is the first step, and yet there is an advanced method. Do you know that emotion is often called energy in motion. When you connect  your visions with powerful emotions, the likelihood of them coming true increase dramatically.

"Thought = creation. If these thoughts are attached to powerful

emotions (good or bad) that speeds the creation"

CONNECTING YOUR VISION TO YOUR MEGA EMOTIONS

How to take the normal vision board process to a place that will really jump start and super charge your visions?

CREATE TWO BOARDS: THE PRO - VISION AND THE ANTI - VISION BOARD

Yes - we need to awaken very powerful emotions for the visions to crystalize.

By creating an anti vision board you can make the vision board process more powerful.

Why? Because to create big visions we need to tap into our emotional lives. If we let our brains rule, we can end up with a vision board that has lots of super ideals and yet is devoid of an emotion.

To be able to super-charge a vision, you have to connect the images to deeper emotions and strong belief systems.

VISION BOARDS BEYOND THE NORM: CREATE AN ANTI VISION BOARD

Dare to gather images that make you angry or your stomach turn. Images that disgust you. Becoming clear what you do not want, is often the very first step to being clear what you deeply long for.

It is kind of like jumping into a big pool of water and using the bottom of the pool  to push up against. You push off the bottom and shoot straight up. How high can you go? Are you able to push through the resistance?

When you know what you DON'T want,

it is easier to become clear what you do want.like or dislike

We need to find the courage to say NO

to the things and people that are not serving us

if we want to rediscover ourselves and live our lives with authenticity.

Barbara De Angelis

So this is the reason for two vision boards. The anti vision board is so that you get clearer to which things you want to use to push off against.

When I did this the first time I had the courage to look at which pictures disgusted me. They were pictures of a woman being stoned, a Tibetan nun burning, children running amidst piles of garbage scavenging for food, pictures of hospitals rooms in war zones where  limbs had been blown off of innocent bystanders as they stood at the market. My stomach turned and my heart bled. The pictures for the new big car or the perfume advertisements paled in comparison.

Allowing myself to deeply feel what I repulsed

made me very clear in which direction
I was meant to walk in as an artist.

The visionary is the one who brings his or her voice into the world and who refuses to edit, rehearse, perform, or hide. It is the visionary who knows that the power of creativity is aligned with authenticity. Angeles Arrien

CREATING TWO VISION BOARDS clears our vision.

In looking at the ANTI VISION BOARD I had created, my focus became clear. I saw that my path as an artist was to connect us back to the stories that uplift and heal. My work became easier, as I could no longer be swallowed by the doubt vortex. Writer's block disappeared and stage fright left the room.

woman with dandelion

The stories and pictures that moved me
and made my heart swell
were the ones that involved the power of love.

The message of hope.

The incredible challenges we can survive when we have each other and understand words such as kindness, compassion, gratitude, respect and dedicate our lives to be in service of protecting human rights and creating a healthy environment. I found myself being pulled to pictures where people were saving beached whales and moved by stories where people put their own lives at risk to help their neighbor.

VISION BOARD EXERCISE

Go to the a bookstore that has a great magazine selection or look for images on the world wide web. If you use the magazines that you have at home, these may represent the life you have now, but not necessarily the ones that will take you beyond what you thought was possible.

Now, remember the game you used to play as a kid with hot and cold. Find out which magazines or pictures are the ones that pull you in your direction - these we put into the HOT category. And which are the ones that repulse you, which ones do you move strongly away from. These magazines we put into the cold category. Feel and do not think your way through this process.

Now grab the stack and go sit down somewhere. Give yourself time to page through and absorb all these many new images.

Powerful action can occur without any thought. Allow yourself to gaze and scan through the magazines and take the pictures that trigger and move something deep within you. Whether it is for the ANTI - VISION BOARD or your VISION BOARD. The images have to touch you in a way beyond reason.

It is all too easy to look for pictures that you believe is the next logical step in your career. You move from a small office to a slightly bigger one, you move from being single to married. Life doesn't have to work in a linear logical movement. I have known people to suddenly receive a world tour out of the blue and have known another writer who got a big film offer although he wasn't expecting it or even go to a tropical island on a last minute flight even though they had only enough cash for a camping trip.

Life is full of the most wondrous possibilities .

It is fun to attract and nourish what you wish to create.
