Presenting analysis work completed at The School of Architecture between 1967 and 2014, this exhibition will celebrate the school's unique approach to analysis as a didactic, structural and abstract discipline. Drawing from the Architecture Archive's collection of student projects, the show will examine significant works of architecture from the Renaissance through the modern period, as well as recently completed buildings. The exhibition will present a broad range of techniques of analysis and representation, which have evolved radically in recent years-from precisely constructed hand drawings to digital drawings and virtual processes that explore new modes of analysis using a variety of materials and tools within a single project. This lecture is part of the 2014 Master of Architecture II Lecture Series. With the development of information theories and related technologies in the postwar period, the notion of design performance became inherently associated with the ability of a given system to exchange information with its environment. Such a perception of design marked a shift from a mere representation of reality to the development of systems that would ensure the conditions for its emergence. With the increasing integration of information technologies in the design laboratory, this condition has triggered numerous projects and researches that aimed at developing environments where information would be considered as the common currency for all the constituents of the world - being organic or non-organic, living or inert, physical or virtual. Aaron Sprecher is Associate Professor at the McGill University School of Architecture in Montreal. He is co-founder and partner of Open Source Architecture (www.o-s-a.com), a collaborative research group that brings together international researchers in the fields of design, engineering, media research, history, and theory. The Intern Development Program (IDP) is an essential step in the path to become an architect. Your journey typically begins in a school of architecture; however, it does not end there. Ultimately, through the IDP you will learn about the daily realities of architectural practice, acquire comprehensive experience in basic practice areas, explore specialized areas of practice, develop professional judgment, and refine your career goals. IDP is designed to help you realize those goals.
The panelists will discuss IDP requirements, and explain the steps to establish your IDP record, identify your IDP supervisor, identify your mentor, document your experience, etc.

CONCEPT AND NOTATION

Bernard Tschumi's buildings and theoretical writings have significantly influenced architectural form and discourse for over forty years. A recent comprehensive retrospective of his work at the Pompidou Centre, Paris, provided visitors with a visual, documentary, and experiential survey of his practice. Tschumi's design for the exhibition reflects his approach to understanding architecture, as he describes in the catalogue Architecture: Concept & Notation, "the art of inventing concepts in space through materials."
Bernard Tschumi founded his practice in 1983 in Paris after winning the Parc de La Villette competition, his first major commission. He opened Bernard Tschumi Architects based in New York City in 1988, and Bernard Tschumi urbanistes Architectes based in Paris in 2002. Notable works include the New Acropolis Museum, Athens; as well as Le Fresnoy Center for the Contemporary Arts, Tourcoing, France; and the Limoges Concert Hall, Limoges, France. Current work includes Carnal Hall, at Le Rosey, the Swiss boarding school, as well as the Mus�oparc Al�sia, Alise-Sainte-Reine, France, and the Paris Zoo. Other current projects include the Vacheron Constantin Headquarters addition, Geneva, and the New Hague Passage, The Hague.
Moderated by Barry Bergdoll, the Meyer Schapiro Professor of Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University and Curator in the Department of Architecture and Design, MoMA.

TEACHING FELLOWSHIP | The Architecture Program at the University of New Mexico is currently seeking applications from recent MArch, MS Arch, MDes, DDes or PhD graduates to join the faculty for one calendar year as a teaching fellow. Applicants should be no more than four years out of a graduate architecture program and looking to launch a career in architectural design education. Evidence of the capacity to be a skilled design instructor is essential, although experience teaching design studio full time is not required.
