CALL FOR PAPERS | Media Architecture Biennale 2014 brings together architects, designers and artists at the world's premier media architecture event taking place on 19-22 November in Aarhus, Denmark, with a pre-event in Copenhagen. Across professions and nationalities, participants will create and discuss the media architecture of the future. And they will investigate how media architecture shapes people's lives in the cities of the world. They invite the submission of short and long papers for the conference. CALL FOR PROPOSALS | First Street Green, in cooperation with NYC Dept. of Parks and Recreation, calls for ideas and volunteer support for an initiative to paint murals on the plywood walls installed in First Park, along the north side of Houston Street near Second Avenue. Each selected artist will be assigned a site within a designated sub-section of the panels. These panels will be repainted on a rotating basis, with an average duration of 2 to 3 months. CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS | The AIA New York Chapter Center for Architecture will open New York New Design in October 2014 at the West 4th Street subway station. New York New Design solicits works of all scales and types - small, large, commercial, residential, public, private, interiors, historic preservation, engineering, landscape, and urban design - presenting the scope and quality of work being done by AIA New York Chapter members both at home and abroad. CALL FOR WORKS: BILLBOARD ART | The 7th International Festival of Art on Billboards held in Poland announces their open call for submissions. The 10 most interesting works will be displayed on billboards in the city space during the Art Moves Festival in September/October 2014 in Torun, Poland. Artists are invited to prepare an artwork in response to this year's competition theme "More or less freedom?". Deadline: July 30, 2014  learn more ...  

 

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: JAE | The theme proposed for Journal of Architectural Education 69:1 is Crisis, with the aim of assembling a collection of research, propositions, and opinions that illuminate in new ways the relation between architecture, modernity, and crisis. The emphasis intended for the issue is less the mitigation or solution of crises than the contextualization of crisis itself in relation to design practice. DESIGN COMPETITION | Shape the Future is a joint collaboration between Metropolis and DuPont™ Corian� and open to architects, interior designers, industrial designers, and students. The competition asks participants to reimagine Corian� solid surface as a building and design resource, with the goal of innovating new, exciting uses for the time-tested material. DESIGN COMPETITION | This international competition aims to rethink and redesign one of the most iconic streets in the world-42nd street in Midtown Manhattan. The competition is intended to encourage architects, planners, and urban designers from around the world to develop creative proposals for remaking this important but noisy, traffic-clogged street into an enhanced, world-class pedestrian environment and public space that is served by a high-quality, low-floor, modern surface light rail tram.
