Professor Emerita Sue Ferguson Gussow (A'56) has taught drawing at The Cooper Union for over 40 years. This special Master Drawing Class benefiting The Cooper Union will include four intense evenings

of drawing instruction and critique.

The only pre-requisite is the love of drawing.

Pre-register now with a minimum contribution of $1,500.
Proceeds to benefit The Cooper Union Annual Fund and the School of Architecture.

K-12 TEACHING OPPORTUNITY | The Center for Architecture Foundation (CFAF) is seeking Design Educators to teach our K-12th grade architecture and design education programs, which use hands-on, project based activities to enrich classroom studies and build student's understanding of the built environment. Design Educators are hired and paid on a per program basis and must be willing to travel to program sites. Our programs take place at the Center for Architecture and in schools throughout the city. OPEN CALL: RESIDENCY IN FINLAND | Since 2010, the Arteles Creative Residency Program in H�meenkyr�, Finland, has welcomed over 220 selected artists and creative professionals to explore, experiment and expand their creative practice and thinking, to produce original works and to collaborate with other energetic and ambitious artistic minds for a concentrated period of time from 1 to 3 months. DESIGN COMPETITION | Warming Huts v. 2014 is launching a Call for Proposals to select design teams to create three (3) new, unique shelters for the Forks Rivertrail, on the Assiniboine River, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The shelters will be installed along the world's longest skating trail (www.rivertrail.ca) between the end of January, and the beginning of March, 2014. STUDENT OPPORTUNITY: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS | Columbia Undergraduate Research Journal is accepting research articles of all shapes and sizes and disciplines (natural sciences, engineering, humanities, social sciences, etc.), written in class or on your own time. We want to be a platform on which the various fields of study on campus can intersect and discuss, to ultimately develop innovative projects and solutions through wacky combinations of ideas from diverse fields of knowledge. DESIGN COMPETITION | ONE Prize Award aims to explore the social, economic, and ecological possibilities of urban transformation. This year's competition is set in the context of severe climate dynamism. VIDEO OPEN CALL | Crane Arts (Philadelphia, PA) announces The 20/92 Open Video Call for a juried one night video screening to consist of up to sixty videos, each one minute in length. All submissions will be formatted to fit the gallery projection system, which casts a continuous image at 20' x 92'. BARRIER BEAUTIFICATION OPEN CALL | The DOT, in collaboration with the Mayor's Community Affairs Unit and New York Cares, invites artists and designers to submit proposals to produce murals for barrier sites citywide. Individual artists and artist teams are eligible to apply, but must submit a single application. Selected artists are granted $2,500 to finalize a design, produce stencils to translate the design onto the barriers and lead volunteers in the implementation process. DOT and New York Cares provide all the necessary materials to paint the murals. Deadline: September 6, 2013. learn more ...

DESIGN COMPETITION | The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia and HP are pleased to announce the 5th Advanced Architecture Contest, on the theme of SELF-SUFFICIENT HABITAT. The competition is open to architects, engineers, planners and designers who want to contribute to progress in making the world more habitable by developing a proposal capable of responding to emerging challenges in areas such as ecology, information technology, architecture, and urban planning. DOT ONGOING OPEN CALL | The DOT collaborates with organization-artist teams to present short-term interventions at a DOT owned and maintained site within the five boroughs. Projects that remain installed for at least 3 months and are produced in conjunction with a not-for-profit organization are eligible to receive up to $1,500 towards project costs to cover installation and removal of the artwork. DESIGN COMPETITION | Blank Space will soon be launching the world's first narrative-based architecture competition. Fairy Tales is an open, international, ideas competition that challenges creatives from all professional realms to develop visionary, narrative-based design proposals. The proposals will combine text-based architectural fairy tales with innovative graphic representations. This includes renderings, typical architectural drawings (plans, sections, elevations), and diagrams, combined with a text-based narrative, that combine together to form a unique architectural fairy tale. BUCKMINSTER FULLER CHALLENGE SEMI-FINALIST | David Turnbull's PITCHAfrica: Waterbank Schools project has been selected as a semi-finalist for the 2013 Buckminster Fuller Challenge presented by the Buckminster Fuller Institute.  The Waterbank School is a transformative school design for poor regions in need of water, worldwide. Utilizing geometry, layout and materials, the school provides a sustainable supply of water and food, for the same cost as the conventional 4 classroom linear school building common throughout the developing world, while catalyzing systemic change in the community.  learn more ...
