MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE II EXHIBITION
The Critical Moment: Architecture in the Expanded Field
OPENING RECEPTION:
SEPT 12, 2012
6:30-8:30pm
7 E. 7 Street

This is a critical moment for the re-thinking of the object of architecture, approaching architectural discourse critically; questioning the very boundaries of Architecture itself.

The innovative and visionary work produced in the Advanced Design Studio, while exploring specific problems, simultaneously addresses the question of the place and relevance of the problem in architectural discourse.

On view from September 12 - September 21, 2012

The Arthur A. Houghton Jr. Gallery
7 East 7th Street, 2nd Floor
NYC

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Cuba's ambitious National Art Schools project, designed by three young artists in the wake of Castro's Revolution, is neglected, nearly forgotten, then ultimately rediscovered as a visionary architectural masterpiece.

A round-table discussion with Diana Agrest, Pablo Castro, Unfinished Spaces co-creators Benjamin Murray and Alysa Nahmias, and moderated by Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa will explore the impact of architecture on social revolution and the role of revolution in shaping architectural expression.

In addition to comprehensively documenting and cataloging student work and mounting scholarly exhibitions, The School of Architecture Archive has within its collection a diverse source of publications for purchase. Many titles are no longer in print and provide a rich account of important moments in architectural history. Included are many publications of the works of John Hejduk, Dean of the School of Architecture from 1975 to 2000.

A complete list of available titles can be found on The Cooper Union website.

"In a way a publication is the result of a kind of communication between persons and places. The actual product is a short hand, a sign, a code of things past. The passing of so called real time: that is, long hours of intense work-thought, relationships brought to an edge, some joys, some sorrows (which may not be apparent at first). Then one reads a list of names that somehow have had something to do with a place and each other. It is then revealed that a place of quality existed, and persons of quality existed. The convolution of these forces joined, and worked on a place at a place for a place. A "communitas" was established." -John Hejduk
