Walking the Road....

I am thankful for the daily meditations of Forward Day by Day. I recently was reminded of the words of Paul to Timothy, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains." (1Timothy 6:10)

What I appreciated in the reflection on this passage is that riches today take many forms that people grasp after under the illusion that these things give security. Money and power are most often offered as examples, but other things are more subtle and seductive - the need to be right, holding onto hurts and not allowing ourselves to forgive, to name a few. All these things, and I suspect there are more, limit our ability to reach out and fully embrace a life of loving sacrifice in Christ. As St. Francis reminds us, it is in giving that we receive. Peace and a good night's sleep can come from the expression of a generous spirit, exercised regularly with forgiveness and charity for all.

The meditation ended with the best questions for us - what are you grasping tightly in your life? Is it life-giving, or is it something you need to release to God?

Thank You
Dear St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church,

Thank you for your donation in support of at MN! Your gift will ensure that mothers and their infants can continue to receive this care in a community where maternal health care is generally not accessible or affordable otherwise. Your generosity will help us achieve our goal of ensuring that every mother and baby has the opportunity for a healthy birth!

Please see the attached acknowledgement and tax receipt for your gift to MN from your Mother's Day service.

Campus Outreach Ministry

Starting in the fall St. Mary Magdalene will be sponsoring an outreach program for young adults who are away from home attending college. We are looking for about 8 families.  Each family would sponsor one college student.

The sponsoring families would be expected to provide and mail one care package a month and another during finals.  The Diocese will track finals week for each school we have registered.   The care packages do not have to be expensive; small gift cards or snacks from the dollar store work well.

Please contact Denise Koch, groupsale@sbcglobal.net, if you can sponsor a college student and provide this important connection to our young adults.  If you are a college student living away from home or the parent of one, please provide Denise Koch with their student mailing address so that they can be included in this outreach. We want them to know they have the support of both their family and their church family.
