 SOPHIA
coffee_croissants.jpg
Mothers need a place to grow- as women and as mothers.  Sophia is a group for mothers with children (birth to high school) who come together the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month to sit around the table, sip coffee, nosh on some delectable treats, and simply talk about life, faith and relationships.

It's a time to ask the hard questions; a time to focus on issues like mercy, justice and compassion when life gets messy; a time to share those valuable tips we all need to tame the day; and a time to connect with other women who share the amazing experience of being a mother.

We meet in the lower level of the House of Grace
Please RSVP to Linda Keith at

 St. Mary's Kitchen

Everyone's participation in the past few years and commitments for 2016 have been extraordinarily  successful.  This is a huge reflection on Saint Mary Magdalene for reaching out to help and serve others.  As a church community we are very well known and appreciated at St. Mary's.  It is a very rewarding experience.

If at any time, if anyone wants to assist at St. Mary's please contact Cyndi Troyer or Mike Barnes to schedule a date to help on.  Remember, our normal rotation is for the third Saturday of every month.

Intercessory Prayer Ministry

elder_woman_holding_rosary.jpg

Every Sunday, during communion, intercessory prayer will be offered by members of the prayer team for anyone with a request. If you would like the prayer team to pray with you, just go to the narthex at the back of the church and a member of the prayer team will meet with you.

Remember, prayer requests can also be submitted by printing them in the Prayers of the People book every Sunday morning. It is located on the left side of the center doors as you enter the nave.

Contact Celia McElhany at 816-589-7950 if you have questions or would like to join the team.

Walking the Road....

When Jesus sent our his followers, 2 by 2, he told them to go into a village or town, search out who is worthy and remain with them..."and let your peace come upon it."

Years ago such a mission began. Disciples went forth and walked this land looking for a place. Faithful people from elsewhere joined them on this adventure in mission. They ministered far and wide. After a period of patient but enthusiastic searching and faithful devotion and fellowship, this group of Jesus followers came here. It became known as St. Mary Magdalene... a place, a sacred place. It was no longer a disbursed fellowship looking for a place to bring the love of Christ. It was planting the foundation of its work, here in this place.

In today's world, a "village" may be several small neighboring communities  such as we find ourselves - Belton, Raymore, Grandview, Loch Lloyd, Leawood, Martin City, and beyond. Such is the "village" we have been led to. It is time to find those who are worthy in this place and bring God's peace.

This explains my efforts during these first months of my ministry with you. Besides connecting with the families and individuals of the parish, I have also been connecting with leaders in this "village", in Belton first then reaching out to Raymore and Grandview. I hope these connections can be the beginning of fruitful relationships where we can bring the love of Christ in meaningful, and perhaps creative ways. Ways that bring love and can add to the meaning and quality of life in this "village".

In turn I hope our witness to Christ can be seen as a spiritual haven for those seeking a closer walk with God. As you carry your faith out into the world, people can see it alive in you. It will not be by the "noisy gongs" of fancy words, or "clanging cymbals" of unreal expectations and miraculous promises. Instead, by a genuine living faith that quietly but effectively brings hope and joy to your life, they will see the hope and joy they seek for theirs and want to come and be fed by the faith we share.

Through the providence of God, we have been called here. The purpose, the hope for St. Mary Magdalene rests solely in the peace we can witness to where we are... here... this village... this place... now....

Please share this opportunity with students!

Thanks for being an American Red Cross blood donor and helping save lives! You can make an even bigger impact by encouraging high school and college students to check out the Leaders Save Lives program. This is a leadership and scholarship opportunity we offer to students during the summer and winter months, when donations typically decline.

Students will work hand-in-hand with the Red Cross to host a summer blood drive by recruiting their friends and family to make appointments to donate blood. By collecting at least 25 pints, students may become eligible to win a college scholarship and earn a gift card. High school students can also earn rewards for the High SchoolLeadership Program.

To become eligible, students must:
  • Be currently enrolled in high school or college.
  • Host a Red Cross blood drive between June 1 - Aug. 31, 2016.
  • Collect at least 25 pints of blood.
Please forward this message on to students who you think are leaders at their school and in their community and encourage them to sign up to help save lives this summer!
