PICTURE / INFO UPDATE FOR THE PARISH DIRECTORY

photographer-sm.jpg Easter is quickly approaching and as is our custom, we need to update the parish directory.  Frank Baker has once again graciously volunteered to be our photographer.

So beginning this Sunday, March 6th through Easter Sunday, March 27th, Frank will be available after worship to take individual/family photos for the directory.

Please take a moment to gather your family and take a photo.  It is a wonderful tool for meeting new people.

 SOPHIA
coffee_croissants.jpg
Mothers need a place to grow- as women and as mothers.  Sophia is a group for mothers with children (birth to high school) who come together the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month to sit around the table, sip coffee, nosh on some delectable treats, and simply talk about life, faith and relationships.

It's a time to ask the hard questions; a time to focus on issues like mercy, justice and compassion when life gets messy; a time to share those valuable tips we all need to tame the day; and a time to connect with other women who share the amazing experience of being a mother.

We meet in the lower level of the House of Grace
Please RSVP to Linda Keith at

 St. Mary's Kitchen

Everyone's participation in the past few years and commitments for 2016 have been extraordinarily  successful.  This is a huge reflection on Saint Mary Magdalene for reaching out to help and serve others.  As a church community we are very well known and appreciated at St. Mary's.  It is a very rewarding experience.

If at any time, if anyone wants to assist at St. Mary's please contact Cyndi Troyer or Mike Barnes to schedule a date to help on.  Remember, our normal rotation is for the third Saturday of every month.

Intercessory Prayer Ministry

elder_woman_holding_rosary.jpg

Every Sunday, during communion, intercessory prayer will be offered by members of the prayer team for anyone with a request. If you would like the prayer team to pray with you, just go to the narthex at the back of the church and a member of the prayer team will meet with you.

Remember, prayer requests can also be submitted by printing them in the Prayers of the People book every Sunday morning. It is located on the left side of the center doors as you enter the nave.

Contact Celia McElhany at 816-589-7950 if you have questions or would like to join the team.

Walking the Road....

Bore Da!... this is 'Good morning" in Welsh, the language of my heritage.

March is a splendid month to appreciate The richness of Celtic Christianity, with saints like St. David of Wales (March 1st) and St. Patrick of Ireland (March 17th). The saints of the British Isles are a rare breed. They were the first witnesses to Christ in those lands, blending the message of love and hope in Jesus Christ with the spirituality of a people well versed in how God's universe worked. This blending developed into an expression of faith that set the spiritual foundations of the Church in Britain and Ireland. God was everywhere. Often this Celtic expression clashed with the continental Church which had been shaped by human powers and places. And while sacred sites had always been important places to focus devotion, The Celtic Christian could carry God in their heart.

These early Celtic Christians were pious people - men and women. They sought to have their faith shape their lives in a deep and profound way. St. David, for example, was often called "the waterman" because he would often spend his personal prayer time standing up to his neck in the icy waters of a Welsh lake. Yet such personal practice did not cause him to treat others with such expectations. His parting words as he lay dying were gentle, encouraging those in his charge to "remember the little I taught you".

I hope you will find encouragement, too, in a faith you can carry in your heart, that you may see God revealed in all the world around you.

Maundy Thursday - Good Friday Vigil

Beginning at 9 pm after the Maundy Thursday liturgy and ending at 9 am on Good Friday, we will have a vigil.  To be on vigil is to be wakeful for a purpose, like standing guard or preparing for a holy occasion. Maybe desiring to participate with such determination that sleep and food are neglected.

As in previous years we commit for one hour where there is no talking.  It is not a time of visitation, but a time of listening, perhaps reading the Bible or the Prayer Book, and praying.  Indeed, an hour at vigil is a daunting task.  But it is not meant to be easy or routine.  It is a time to be in conversation with God. Although challenging, it can also be a wonderful grace filled blessing.

If you would like to participate click here and commit by signing up for a one or more time slots.   There will also be a sign up sheet in the narthex on Palm Sunday.

Please share this opportunity with students!

Thanks for being an American Red Cross blood donor and helping save lives! You can make an even bigger impact by encouraging high school and college students to check out the Leaders Save Lives program. This is a leadership and scholarship opportunity we offer to students during the summer and winter months, when donations typically decline.

Students will work hand-in-hand with the Red Cross to host a summer blood drive by recruiting their friends and family to make appointments to donate blood. By collecting at least 25 pints, students may become eligible to win a college scholarship and earn a gift card. High school students can also earn rewards for the High SchoolLeadership Program.

To become eligible, students must:
  • Be currently enrolled in high school or college.
  • Host a Red Cross blood drive between June 1 - Aug. 31, 2016.
  • Collect at least 25 pints of blood.
Please forward this message on to students who you think are leaders at their school and in their community and encourage them to sign up to help save lives this summer!
