PICTURE / INFO UPDATE FOR THE PARISH DIRECTORY

photographer-sm.jpg Easter is quickly approaching and as is our custom, we need to update the parish directory.  Frank Baker has once again graciously volunteered to be our photographer.

So beginning this Sunday, March 6th through Easter Sunday, March 27th, Frank will be available after worship to take individual/family photos for the directory.

Please take a moment to gather your family and take a photo.  It is a wonderful tool for meeting new people.

 SOPHIA
coffee_croissants.jpg
Mothers need a place to grow- as women and as mothers.  Sophia is a group for mothers with children (birth to high school) who come together the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month to sit around the table, sip coffee, nosh on some delectable treats, and simply talk about life, faith and relationships.

It's a time to ask the hard questions; a time to focus on issues like mercy, justice and compassion when life gets messy; a time to share those valuable tips we all need to tame the day; and a time to connect with other women who share the amazing experience of being a mother.

We meet in the lower level of the House of Grace
Please RSVP to Linda Keith at

 St. Mary's Kitchen

Everyone's participation in the past few years and commitments for 2016 have been extraordinarily  successful.  This is a huge reflection on Saint Mary Magdalene for reaching out to help and serve others.  As a church community we are very well known and appreciated at St. Mary's.  It is a very rewarding experience.

If at any time, if anyone wants to assist at St. Mary's please contact Cyndi Troyer or Mike Barnes to schedule a date to help on.  Remember, our normal rotation is for the third Saturday of every month.

Intercessory Prayer Ministry

elder_woman_holding_rosary.jpg

Every Sunday, during communion, intercessory prayer will be offered by members of the prayer team for anyone with a request. If you would like the prayer team to pray with you, just go to the narthex at the back of the church and a member of the prayer team will meet with you.

Remember, prayer requests can also be submitted by printing them in the Prayers of the People book every Sunday morning. It is located on the left side of the center doors as you enter the nave.

Contact Celia McElhany at 816-589-7950 if you have questions or would like to join the team.

Episcopal Chaplain at the Bedside

Walking the Road....

Christians of all bents and persuasions recognize that two actions are key expressions of our faith in Jesus Christ - Holy Baptism and Holy Communion, under its various names. While Holy Baptism is like birth, a one-time occasion in our lives, Holy Communion, or as we call it Holy Eucharist, is repeated as it reflects living faith in our daily lives.

It is such a regular occurrence in our common life as a congregation, we may take this event for granted. We may not know or appreciate where it came from and why it is so central to our worship of Almighty God. To help us experience its beginnings in the Last Super of our seder-plate.jpg Lord so we can better understand and embrace its meaning for Christ and for us, we will celebrate Maundy Thursday as Jesus did, with a Passover Seder, adapted to include the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist. The richness of this meal will take us back to that evening in the Upper Room where Jesus was expressing the hope of his death and resurrection, unrecognized by his disciples, but to begin unfolding during the hours that followed. In this meal shared as a family of friends, we will also discover the deep connection of God's revelation to his people in eons passed and the projection of that revelation into the future.

I hope you will plan to come and join your church family in this most moving faith experience. More details will be found elsewhere in The Call.

It now works, and any help you can give is still needed. Please help fight this virus as you feel led.

Don't forget to set a time to meet with Fr. Ash

I am in the process of scheduling times for each household in the parish - yes everyone - to meet. He would like to visit with all members of the household if possible. He is open to meeting with you in your home, office, favorite coffee shop, etc., whatever location will work best for your schedule.

So with that in mind, and not wanting to overwhelm him with scheduling details, there are a few parameters.
  • First, all schedules will be set through the church office (or Arni - yes, that's me ;-).
  • Second, in attempting to manage his schedule, prefered days are Tuesdays or Sundays after church, with some limits. Please do not try to schedule a time with Fr. Evan directly, not that he doesn't want to talk to you. But it becomes too confusing if multiple people are setting schedules.
  • Last, no matter how you choose to set your schedule, it is only official when you get a confirmation email or voice message from Arni.
You are welcome to use the "Click Here" button above if you would like to sign up online.  Otherwise, contact Arni - yes, still me, to schedule your prefered meeting time with Fr. Ash.

You can contact me at arni@marymag.com or 816-331-2222. If I don't answer the phone, please leave a message, and I will call you back as quickly as possible. Your help with this project is most appreciated by both Fr. Evan and myself.

Thoughts on Driving from Fr. Ash...

When did you last take a driving test?  Young people are not the only ones who get distracted while driving....

"Round abouts"? "Diamond intersections"? What are we to do behind the wheel of our cars with these new fangled inventions?

Lynn and I recently completed the AARP Smart Driver Course. It is intended to help senior drivers strengthen their skills in the changing driving environment. We found it was very helpful and gave us ideas to help us build on our 50-plus years of driving. We encourage you to consider taking this course.

A bonus if your live in Kansas is that state laws require your insurance company to give you a discount on your premiums, the amount will vary from insurer to insurer. Missouri does not require the discount but individual insurers may offer this added bonus. Check with your agent.

Find more information at www.aarp.org/driving27.  Keep yourself safe body and soul, others, too!

Do you like to clean?
Do you like to meet people?
We need your help!

We are currently looking for help in at least two areas of our community. As most of you know, we are having more and more meetings in the House of Grace. This is because it can easily accommodate smaller groups for prayer and study. But also because it helps with utility expenses when the church is not used as frequently.

spring_cleaning.jpg With more use, comes more cleaning. We have a couple of volunteers who can do the routine cleaning and straightening. But there is a need for someone who can do a little more of the deep cleaning on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. Things, like vacumning/mopping floors and cleaning bathrooms. If this is an area where you can help, please contact Kary Mann or the church office at 816-331-2222 or arni@marymag.com.

Also, if you would like to learn more about the nature of our weekly busness-handshake3.jpg services, or would just like to become more involved in them... please consider joining the Mary Mag Team Of Ushers!  We have a great group, and we would love to 'train' new ushers in the Ways of the Episcopal Aisle. If you have never been involved in a role of service during worship, this is a great first step.

It's a simple, fun and a wonderful way to welcome both visitors and regular attendees.  Contact Don Stebbins via email at stebbins298@gmail.com, to let us know of your interest (beginning for spring or summer).  Join us!
