 SOPHIA
coffee_croissants.jpg
Mothers need a place to grow- as women and as mothers.  Sophia is a group for mothers with children (birth to high school) who come together the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month to sit around the table, sip coffee, nosh on some delectable treats, and simply talk about life, faith and relationships.

It's a time to ask the hard questions; a time to focus on issues like mercy, justice and compassion when life gets messy; a time to share those valuable tips we all need to tame the day; and a time to connect with other women who share the amazing experience of being a mother.

Sophia will meet on: Tuesday, February 9th from 9:30-11:30 am

We will meet in the lower level of the House of Grace
Please RSVP to Linda Keith at

 St. Mary's Kitchen

Everyone's participation in the past few years and commitments for 2016 have been extraordinarily  successful.  This is a huge reflection on Saint Mary Magdalene for reaching out to help and serve others.  As a church community we are very well known and appreciated at St. Mary's.  It is a very rewarding experience.

If at any time, if anyone wants to assist at St. Mary's please contact Cyndi Troyer or Mike Barnes to schedule a date to help on.  Remember, our normal rotation is for the third Saturday of every month.

Intercessory Prayer Ministry

elder_woman_holding_rosary.jpg

Every Sunday, during communion, intercessory prayer will be offered by members of the prayer team for anyone with a request. If you would like the prayer team to pray with you, just go to the narthex at the back of the church and a member of the prayer team will meet with you.

Remember, prayer requests can also be submitted by printing them in the Prayers of the People book every Sunday morning. It is located on the left side of the center doors as you enter the nave.

Contact Celia McElhany at 816-589-7950 if you have questions or would like to join the team.

Fr. Marshall's Blog

Episcopal Chaplain at the Bedside

Walking the Road....

The season of Lent is a time of reflection and honesty with God. We have this chance to renew our faith at the deepest level every year so we may better embrace the grace our Heavenly Father was shown to us through Jesus Christ. This season I am using our Sunday sermon time to discover the basic facets of our own lives and how the connect to our part in the redemption of our souls. Basic insights to guide this journey will be borrowed from the wisdom of Abram Maslow, a psychologist who has helped us understand our basic human needs and their connection with each other. On our first Sunday we explored how managing the needs of the body, like Jesus fasted to begin his earthly ministry, plays a foundation role in our relationship with God, bringing the body into the role of tool rather than just destination. In succeeding weeks we will explore how we relate to the environment around us, the part played by our relationships, how our actions and expression of ourselves in our lives are tools of service as well as fulfilling the image of God within us. And, as we approach the story of our Lord's Passion, we will finally prepare ourselves with a reflection on what it means to need to be spiritual.

I hope, as you listen to these messages, you will encounter that personal moment when you can mark your own progress in this journey of redemptive living, and discover how to proceed on in faith towards the goal of wholeness with God.

Don't forget to set a time to meet with Fr. Ash

I am in the process of scheduling times for each household in the parish - yes everyone - to meet. He would like to visit with all members of the household if possible. He is open to meeting with you in your home, office, favorite coffee shop, etc., whatever location will work best for your schedule.

So with that in mind, and not wanting to overwhelm him with scheduling details, there are a few parameters.
  • First, all schedules will be set through the church office (or Arni - yes, that's me ;-).
  • Second, in attempting to manage his schedule, prefered days are Tuesdays or Sundays after church, with some limits. Please do not try to schedule a time with Fr. Evan directly, not that he doesn't want to talk to you. But it becomes too confusing if multiple people are setting schedules.
  • Last, no matter how you choose to set your schedule, it is only official when you get a confirmation email or voice message from Arni.
You are welcome to use the "Click Here" button above if you would like to sign up online.  Otherwise, contact Arni - yes, still me, to schedule your prefered meeting time with Fr. Ash.

You can contact me at arni@marymag.com or 816-331-2222. If I don't answer the phone, please leave a message, and I will call you back as quickly as possible. Your help with this project is most appreciated by both Fr. Evan and myself.
