 SOPHIA
coffee_croissants.jpg
Mothers need a place to grow- as women and as mothers.  Sophia is a group for mothers with children (birth to high school) who come together the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month to sit around the table, sip coffee, nosh on some delectable treats, and simply talk about life, faith and relationships.

It's a time to ask the hard questions; a time to focus on issues like mercy, justice and compassion when life gets messy; a time to share those valuable tips we all need to tame the day; and a time to connect with other women who share the amazing experience of being a mother.

Sophia will meet on: Tuesday, February 9th from 9:30-11:30 am

We will meet in the lower level of the House of Grace
Please RSVP to Linda Keith at

 St. Mary's Kitchen

Everyone's participation in the past few years and commitments for 2016 have been extraordinarily  successful.  This is a huge reflection on Saint Mary Magdalene for reaching out to help and serve others.  As a church community we are very well known and appreciated at St. Mary's.  It is a very rewarding experience.

If at any time, if anyone wants to assist at St. Mary's please contact Cyndi Troyer or Mike Barnes to schedule a date to help on.  Remember, our normal rotation is for the third Saturday of every month.

Intercessory Prayer Ministry

elder_woman_holding_rosary.jpg

Every Sunday, during communion, intercessory prayer will be offered by members of the prayer team for anyone with a request. If you would like the prayer team to pray with you, just go to the narthex at the back of the church and a member of the prayer team will meet with you.

Remember, prayer requests can also be submitted by printing them in the Prayers of the People book every Sunday morning. It is located on the left side of the center doors as you enter the nave.

Contact Celia McElhany at 816-589-7950 if you have questions or would like to join the team.

Walking the Road....

As I shared at the Annual Parish Meeting, my wife Lynn and I are looking forward to "walking the road" with the people of St. Mary Magdalene. This expression, "walking the road", is an apt description of my unique calling as a Priest. I will not take space here to describe my journey but to say our Lord's walk along the Emmaus road has been a mirror for me in my ministry.

One thing I have noted is that while each of us may think the journey of life began when we were born, the road of faith has been around for a long, long time. Many people have walked it, leaving many signs along the way to guide our path. We have these signs to help make our journey fuller, richer and more rewarding, we just have to keep our eyes, hearts and souls open to read the signs and let them help us. Some signs will warn us of the parts of the path that spell disaster. Other signs will help us discover depths and beauty we will miss if we only keep our eyes on the road. If you ignore these signs, reflecting the walk of others, you will risk straying and getting lost in your life. What can we collectively call this these signs and the companionship of fellow travelers it offers - The Church, in all of its 2000 years of seeking that final destination, eternity in the Kingdom of God.

Let us walk the road together, and find value for our journey in the signs along the way...

Fr. Evan Ash would like to meet with you and your family

As I'm sure you are anxious to get to know him, he is equally anxious to meet each of you. Toward that goal, he has requested that I schedule a time to meet with each household in the parish - yes everyone. He would like to visit with all members of the household if possible. He is open to meeting with you in your home, office, favorite coffee shop, etc., whatever location will work best for your schedule.

So with that in mind, and not wanting to overwhelm him with scheduling details, there are a few parameters.
  • First, all schedules will be set through the church office (or Arni - yes, that's me ;-).
  • Second, in attempting to manage his schedule, prefered days are Tuesdays or Sundays after church, with some limits. Please do not try to schedule a time with Fr. Evan directly, not that he doesn't want to talk to you. But it becomes too confusing if multiple people are setting schedules.
  • Last, not matter how you choose to set your schedule, it is only official when you get a confirmation email or voice message from Arni.
You are welcome to use the "Click Here" button above if you would like to sign up online.  Otherwise, contact Arni - yes, still me, to schedule your prefered meeting time with Fr. Ash.

You can contact me at arni@marymag.com or 816-331-2222. If I don't answer the phone, please leave a message, and I will call you back as quickly as possible. Your help with this project is most appreciated by both Fr. Evan and myself.
