 SOPHIA
coffee_croissants.jpg
Mothers need a place to grow- as women and as mothers.  Sophia is a group for mothers with children (birth to high school) who come together the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month to sit around the table, sip coffee, nosh on some delectable treats, and simply talk about life, faith and relationships.

It's a time to ask the hard questions; a time to focus on issues like mercy, justice and compassion when life gets messy; a time to share those valuable tips we all need to tame the day; and a time to connect with other women who share the amazing experience of being a mother.

Sophia will meet on: Tuesday, January 26th from 9:30-11:30 am

We will meet in the lower level of the House of Grace
Please RSVP to Linda Keith at

 St. Mary's Kitchen

Everyone's participation in the past few years and commitments for 2016 have been extraordinarily  successful.  This is a huge reflection on Saint Mary Magdalene for reaching out to help and serve others.  As a church community we are very well known and appreciated at St. Mary's.  It is a very rewarding experience.

If at any time, if anyone wants to assist at St. Mary's please contact Cyndi Troyer or Mike Barnes to schedule a date to help on.  Remember, our normal rotation is for the third Saturday of every month.

Intercessory Prayer Ministry

elder_woman_holding_rosary.jpg

Every Sunday, during communion, intercessory prayer will be offered by members of the prayer team for anyone with a request. If you would like the prayer team to pray with you, just go to the narthex at the back of the church and a member of the prayer team will meet with you.

Remember, prayer requests can also be submitted by printing them in the Prayers of the People book every Sunday morning. It is located on the left side of the center doors as you enter the nave.

Contact Celia McElhany at 816-589-7950 if you have questions or would like to join the team.

PRIEST TRANSITION INFORMATION

We are a community that is Real, Rooted, and Relevant - real people, rooted in the common journey of following Jesus' way of love, seeking to live out a relevant faith that meaningfully connects with our lives and the lives of others. Our purpose is to follow Jesus Christ so that we will be His hands and feet in the world. All are welcome here.

Your vestry is pleased to announce that Father Evan Ash has answered our call to serve as St. Mary Magdalene's part-time interim priest! Father Evan will celebrate the Eucharist with us on Sundays, and will provide pastoral care and maintain limited weekly office hours for the duration of the priest transition period. His service with us will begin on February 7th; he and his wife, Lynn, plan to join us for the All-Parish Meeting after services on January 31st.

In the meantime, we have secured supply priests for January, as follows:

Jan. 24th: Father Marshall Scott
Jan. 31st: The Rev. Dr. Steven Rottgers, Canon to the Ordinary, Diocese of West Missouri

Please direct all pastoral care requests to Deacon Peisha Roumas, 816.507.8099, peisha@kc.rr.com; or to the Church Office at 816.331.2222.

Church Office Hours: 1 pm-5 pm, Tuesday-Thursday.

We ask that everyone join us in prayer for God's continued guidance and grace to our parish.

Episcopal Community Services invites you to join parishes throughout the Greater Kansas City area Sunday, January 31, 2016, 5:00 PM at Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral for a Service of Celebration and Installation.

With the Holy Eucharist, we welcome our neighbors and supporters to help ECS celebrate the work and ministry of the Kansas City Community Kitchen, Episcopal Hunger Relief Network and Culinary Cornerstones Training Program. ECS is honored to have The Right Reverend Martin S. Field, Bishop, Diocese of West Missouri, and The Reverend Torey Lightcap, Canon of the Ordinary, Diocese of Kansas, join us for this great event.

St. Mary Magdalene is invited to participate by bringing a donation of canned food (tuna, chicken, corn, kidney beans, carrots, etc.) for a special offering to our network of food pantries across the city.

bible_beauty.jpg                 Adult Bible Study

This newly formed ministry will finish up our first study towards the end of January.  Members of the group have expressed an interest in the Gospel of Mark for our next study.  I expect we will begin the study around mid February and it will likely be a 10-12 week study.

Our group meets in the House of Grace on Sunday evenings, 7-8:30 pm.  We will not meet on Palm Sunday or Easter Sunday.  Come and join us (invite your friends)!

The cost of the book will depend on the specific study we choose, but is very reasonable.   If you are interested, please contact Mary Mayabb 816-679-4889 or marymayabb@yahoo.com
