Contact Celia McElhany or Deacon Peisha about upcoming training opportunities if you are interested in participating.

 St. Mary's Kitchen

Everyone's participation in the past few years and commitments for 2015 have been extraordinarily successful.  This is a huge reflection on Saint Mary Magdalene for reaching out to help and serve others.  As a church community we are very well known and appreciated at St. Mary's.  It is a very rewarding experience.

If at any time, if anyone wants to assist at St. Mary's please contact Cyndi Troyer or Mike Barnes to schedule a date to help on.  Remember, our normal rotation is for the third Saturday of every month.

In conjunction with four other researchers at universities in the U.S., Martin Shuster, Ph.D. has served as a co-principal investigator in a research project into religious understanding as part of a research grant in philosophy of religion awarded by the "Varieties of Understanding" project, funded by the Templeton Foundation. More information can be found at religiousunderstanding.wordpress.com.

This public town hall will feature the core research group and several other experts in the study of religion and religious traditions not represented by the group. The format will be an open, public, inclusive and non-specialized discussion of religious understanding.

Who should attend?
The event offers a unique opportunity for anyone interested in the topic to engage with specialists in these traditions (specialists who rarely come together in this way) and each other around the topic of religious understanding and religion more generally. Anyone who is interested in questions of religion and religious understanding is invited to participate, and no special training or background, apart from respectful inquiry, is required.

While this event is free to the public, and RSVP would be greatly appreciated as seating is limited. For more information and to make your reservation:

St. Mary Mag Basics Classes

A Foundation for Faith

studying_girl.jpg

St. Mary Magdalene Basics is a series of 3-6 week courses that give us a foundation for the faith we live together as a parish in the Episcopal Church. It's not an indoctrination, but a chance to roll up our sleeves, learn, discuss and apply the core pieces of who we are as Christians and Episcopalians. These classes are important-and so we ask a commitment to attend the all days in each series

.

Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings and will include a light supper at 6:30 pm, class from 7 - 8:30 pm and we will end with Compline. Childcare will be provided if needed. Registration for all classes is open. Please email the rector at [email protected] to register.

La Petra School Haiti

Haiti Missions

St Mary Magdalene supports two missions in Haiti.  We hear about both of these missions every Sunday in the Prayers of the People - Maison de Naissance (the birthing home) and the Church and School of the Incarnation.

Control of the Incarnation project was recently transferred to MaryMag from St Christopher's in Pensacola, and we now have a budget and operations to manage.  A new latrine was recently built for the church, and we would like to start planning school construction in the first quarter of 2015.  We would also like to organize mission trips to Le Pretre and Maison de Naissance.

To that end, we need to create a Haitian Ministry Steering Committee.  The purpose of this committee would be to help Jim Grant manage these projects.  If you would like to be a part of this committee or have any questions about this ministry, please contact Jim Grant at [email protected]
