Rivendell Retreat
to focus on two lesser-known medieval women mystics -
Hadewijch of Antwerp & Mechthild of Magdeburg
Though less well known, these women wrote astonishingly beautiful, searching and challenging accounts of the love between God and the human soul. Explore some of their poetry and prose, along with the tradition of "Minne [Love] Mysticism" which they celebrate. Discuss the Beguine movement - a surprising way in which women found a voice and a holy life on the fringes of the official church.
For more information contact Kary Mann at kary_mann@yahoo.com or 913-269-0918

From the Financial Secretary:
If you've missed (or will be missing) a few Sundays this summer to explore God's creation, celebrate the 4th of July or enjoy perfect 5K or half-marathon weather, please don't forget your pledge to Mary Mag. Expenses such as the mortgage and utilities continue regardless of how many people are in the pews. Summer is always a challenge for congregations of any denomination. Thanks for keeping your pledge payments current wherever you are!
Regina.

Priest Transition Information
August 12 update
As your vestry, we share in your sense of loss due to the recent resignation of Father Jason. We too will miss him and his family. They've been a vital part of our congregation over these last several years and have walked with us as we moved into a store front, built and moved into a new building, developed and grown several exciting ministries, and achieved parish status.
Although we all miss Father Jason's leadership, we share in his excitement of his new assignment. We know this promotion is a reflection of the great work we've been able to do together. And we fully expect to continue moving forward with growth and vitality. Our current plan is:
August & September - Fathers Marshall, Bill, & Bob have agreed to be supply priests.
- We will be selecting a search committee, which is a diverse team of 6-12 people. Members of the search committee engage in parish assessment, develop the search request and a parish profile, and identify candidates. We anticipate the search process taking up to a year, with a time commitment of meeting once a month during the first half of the year, then meeting more often as needed as the search process develops. If you would like to be considered for the search committee or if you would like to nominate someone else (after checking with that person first) then submit the name to Karen Hansen by August 25. The vestry will make a final selection.
- We are working on a plan for supply priests for October and beyond.
If you have a pastoral care need, we have some options for you:
- For lay care, contact Cyndi Troyer at acetroyer@gmail.com or call the church office at 816-331-2222.
We ask that everyone join us in prayer for God's continued guidance.

Adult Formation Opportunities
SOPHIA: Sophia is an opportunity for moms with children still at home (infant through high school) to share a cup of coffee and talk about our lives, faith and relationships. The Sophia fall session will begin on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 9:30am - 11:00am in the small classroom and will focus on meditative writings, contemplation and plenty of conversation. If you can't join us on Wednesday mornings, follow along online at sophiameditations.com. Childcare is available, but you must register your child(ren) so we can plan for enough childcare providers. For questions or childcare reservations email Linda@marymag.com.
SPIRITUAL VITALITY: This lively Sunday morning group, led by Mike Barnes, meets the first and third Sunday of every month.Join the conversation at 9:30-10:15 in the small classroom. Early birds are welcome at 9:15 for some coffee and social-time. Spiritual Vitality is typically a Bible Study based on the weekly readings from the Revised Common Lectionary. In our commitment to remain real, rooted and relevant, we will take these readings from the ancient text and apply them to our 21st century lives. The group is an open discussion format where questions or comments are welcomed. If there is a particular topic or subject from the Bible you would like to explore in future session, please contact Mike. Spiritual Vitality is for all adults - high school age and beyond.

Children's Ministry
It is Summer and there are three changes to note in our Children's Ministry:
- Our lectionary based curriculum is now available throughout the summer, so we are pleased to continue our lessons without interruption.
- Children's ministry will be available throughout the summer - so we will not be taking the month of August off, as in years past. This is important as most families are back in town and in school by mid August.
- Attendance is typically lower in the summer months, so along with the usual Children's Chapel, we will offer 2 classes: younger children and older children. We will divide the classes based on attendance each Sunday.
We would welcome new teachers and helpers, so if you have any interest, please see one of us.
Your children are a joy,
Your children's ministry committee,
Kara Costner, Denise Koch, Gudrun Neumann, Ali Wormington

SMM MISSION TRIP TO HAITI
Dates are now finalized for the October trip!!
St. MaryMag is planning a trip to Le Pretre, Haiti for the Incarnation Project. The trip is set for October 5 - 12, and we will be joining folks from St Chistopher's in Pensacola. This trip will be primarily medical, but there is always other work to be done, and medical expertise is not required. Other work includes pouring a new slab for the church/school latrines. We need 2-3 volunteers, preferably with some construction experience, but anyone prepared for some heavy work is welcome! (If you do not like heat, this might not be for you.)
The cost of a one week trip is $2000, which includes airfare, lodging, meals, ground transportation and tips.
Please contact Jim Grant at jcgrant4th@aim.com with questions or to volunteer
