March Bird of the Month Crane Dance
Sandhill Cranes

The Sandhill Crane has one of the longest fossil histories of any existing bird, with the oldest dating back 2.5 million years. Dave's March Bird Chatter
The 2013 spring bird migration began in January with eagles and some hawks. Mild days in early February freed area lakes from winter's icy grip. This allowed many geese and ducks to start their move north. More than 3 million Snow Geese were reported at Swan Creek National Wildlife Refuge along the Missouri River. Since then tens of thousands of Snow Geese have been spotted flying over Lincoln moving from the Missouri River to Nebraska's Central Platte River Valley and the Rain Water Basin where it is common for millions of birds to congregate. The Platte River has ample water for the 600,000 Sandhill Cranes.....read more Bird Chatter
