2013 WIDEMAN PIANO COMPETITION WINNER YEVGENY YONTOV PERFORMS WITH THE SHREVEPORT SYMPHONY ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22 


Shreveport, LA, NOVEMBER 4, 2014 - The Shreveport Symphony's Beethoven & Mozart concert will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014, 7:30 PM at the RiverView Theater. Wideman Piano Competition Gold Medalist YEVGENY YONTOV will perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the SSO.


Yevgeny Yontov won the gold medal and the William Peyton Shehee and Virginia Kilpatrick Shehee Award at the 63rd Wideman International Piano Competition, held in Shreveport. The finals took place on Sunday, December 8, 2013. Yontov, one of nine finalists who emerged after preliminary rounds, won with his performance of Sergei Prokofiev's Concerto No. 3 in C Major, Op. 26.

Yontov began his piano studies at age six with Adela Umansky and later earned his bachelor of music degree summa cum laude from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel-Aviv University, where he studied with Arie Vardi. He currently studies with Boris Berman at the Yale School of Music.

The Shreveport Symphony is also presenting a chamber music concert on Sunday, November 23, 3 PM at Anderson Auditorium, Centenary College. General admission seats for are free.
