VPI partner HYFC will be hosting the 3rd annual End of Summer Celebration Friday August 23rd, 2013. The Celebration will begin with a neighborhood clean up from 10-12 p.m. Followed by the Celebration from 12-3p.m.

Safe & Sound's Safe Places Initiative Currently Accepting Request For Proposals
Safe Places can help youth discover their potential as change makers and community leaders. They also keep youth on a positive path.
Safe & Sound is inviting youth development organizations serving young people between the ages of 10-19 to review the
2014 Safe Places Initiative Request for Proposals now available on its website
Now in its 15th year,Safe & Sound has partnered with youth-serving agencies to improve neighborhood quality of life through a community engagement strategy of positive youth development. Grant funds are used to offer safe environments and foster pro-social orientations that promote healthy behaviors among youth.
Organizations selected as Safe Places will become part of a citywide network for the benefit of both staff at youth-serving agencies and youth they engage. To learn more about applying to become a Safe Place after school program, please review the 2014 Safe Places Request for Proposal.

-"The Milwaukee metropolitan area is the most polarized part of a very polarized state in a very polarized nation. " The words of veteran political reporter Craig Gilbert, who is spending the fall semester as the Law School's Lubar Fellow for Public Policy Research. His project will explore not only how the area came to be this way, but what our stark political divisions mean for the political process and public policy in the region. Dubbed the "the most political science-friendly reporter in America" by the Columbia Journalism Review, Gilbert will be working closely with Prof. Charles Franklin, who joined the Law School in August. Franklin is a nationally recognized government scholar, and director of the Marquette Law School Poll. Together, the two will discuss recent voting trends, polling data, and the implications of our great divide. 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., Marquette Law School, Eckstein Hall. Research Corner:
Zoning for the Public's Health: Using Mixed-Use Zoning to Increase Walkability and Reduce Crime.
Neighborhood design can play a significant role in public health. Recent research explores mixed-use zoning and the laws that impact this type of zoning, and how well-planned zoning could help reduce crime and increase neighborhood walkability-- two outcomes integrally tied to improved public health. In this webinar, presenters will share the latest public health law research that supports these findings, describe a new method for evaluating zoning laws, examine case studies from the East and West coasts, and highlight some of the challenges involved in such policy work.
