VPI partners Running Rebels, are taking a proactive stand against gun violence in our community with the "I Can Stop A Speeding Bullet Campaign".
 
This week long national education initiative will involve activities that demonstrate the positive role young people have in making their school and community safer.
  
Partners of Ripple Effect Milwaukee would like to invite you to celebrate April Friends Day at the Fitzsimonds Boys & Girls Club located at 3400 W. North Avenue in Milwaukee on April 1st from 12:30 - 4:00pm. This event is an awareness campaign geared towards youth ages 10-17, focusing on bullying, cyberbullying, and youth violence. Young people will enjoy a youth-led play, food, crafts, and a youth driven solutions based discussion on how to address violence and bullying in our community and schools.
  
Join us in wearing Denim on April 24th, 2013 as a symbol of your protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.  
  
VPI partner Wisconsin Community Services, Inc. (WCS) will be presenting a 2-day skills training program Motivational Interviewing May 1st and May 8th, 2013.
   
Jewish Family Services and VPI are excited to host Dr. Jackson Katz at the Italian Conference Center in Milwaukee on Wednesday, May 1st. His multimedia presentation, entitled: "Tough Guise: Violence, Media, and the Crisis in Masculinity," will be open to the community. In this program, Katz will illustrate how mainstream media images from sports, television, Hollywood film, and music videos help promote violent masculinity as a cultural norm.
  
UW-Milwaukee Center for Urban Initiatives & Research and MCW Violence Prevention Initiative presents Restorative Practices Conference May 29th at Italian Conference Center 7:30am - 3:30pm.
  
VPI Youth Leadership Council Recruits New Leaders
  
The Medical College of Wisconsin Violence Prevention Initiative (VPI) is currently selecting young leaders between the ages of 14-17 yers old for the VPI Youth Leadership Council! The Youth Leadership Council through its efforts implements an evidence based, public health approach in leadership development through collaborative outreach, mentoring, and leadership skills development.
  
It is our hope that you will join us in our efforts in building a stronger community as we strengthen our skills as the new generation of leaders! Together we can break the paterns of violence in our community and create a nurturing, caring community in which we all can achieve together!

Harper High Schools Part 1 and Part 2: "We spent five months at Harper High School in Chicago where last year alone 29 current and recent students were shot. We went to get a sense of what it means to live in the midst of all this gun violence, how teens and adults navigate a world of funerals and Homecoming dances.
