American Writers Museum Foundation Names
Sandra M. Jones Director of Communications

(CHICAGO - October 3, 2013) The American Writers Museum Foundation announced today the appointment of Sandra M. Jones as director of communications and digital strategy. Jones will oversee the communications, including the digital and social media functions, of the foundation.

"Sandra is an experienced communications professional with a deep appreciation for our nation's rich literary heritage," said Malcolm O'Hagan, museum founder and chairman of the foundation. "I'm delighted she is joining our team as we embark on the next phase of developing the first national museum dedicated to American writers."

As communications director, Jones will work closely with O'Hagan, the board of directors and the Chicago Literary Council to raise awareness of the museum foundation as it begins its first major capital campaign. Detailed design plans for the museum were released in June with a target to open the first phase of the museum in Chicago in 2015.

Jones most recently served as director of communications at the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity where she was a member of Governor Pat Quinn's economic leadership team. Before that, Jones worked for more than 20 years as a business journalist at the Chicago Tribune, Crain's Chicago Business and Bloomberg News. She is a graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and a winner of the Society of Business Editors and Writers award for enterprise reporting.

A lifelong advocate for literacy, Jones has held volunteer tutoring and leadership positions at non-profit organizations throughout the Chicago area focused on teaching and encouraging children and adults to read and write.
