Hi All,
I hope this finds you all well and happy and ready for a wonderful summer.
The inspiration for this June newsletter came as a few different articles have recently come to my attention:
Body Atlas Reveals Where We Feel Happiness and Shame,
and
These articles ring true for me because Chinese Medicine has since its inception made the following claims:
Spirit is Primary,
and
Qi Follows Thought.
In this newsletter then, I want to feature the above articles, and remind you also of the benefit of acupuncture and Chinese herbs for mental and emotional health, because as we know, thinking positively and being happy constantly are easier said than done.
And, regarding the nuts and bolts of my practice, as many of you know, I am able to bill insurance for acupuncture services if you have a policy that covers acupuncture. Before this year, acupuncture was mostly only available in the pricier policies. Since January, however, with the inception of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare), acupuncturists have been able to bill their services as physical therapy, which many more policies cover. So, if you are wondering if your policy can now cover acupuncture through your physical therapy benefits, please contact me and we can figure it out.
And, even if your policy does not cover these services, taking charge of your own health with a safe, natural, effective, profound, interesting, and pleasant health care modality is never, of course, a bad idea!
Okay then, thanks and be well!
Beth

Scientists Finally Show How Your Thoughts Can Cause Specific Molecular Changes to Your Genes and the Emotional Freedom Technique
The information in this article is good news as it asserts that we are not victims of our genes and biology. Dr. Bruce Lipton is quoted extensively in this article and has been a researcher and proponent of this point of view for many years. He is also a most articulate spokesman and I recommend his work highly. Many of you may be interested in his book
I read it recently and found it quite fascinating and not too technical.
Controlling our thoughts and beliefs is easier said than done as we all know. Attention is given in the article to the subconscious mind which records negative thoughts and beliefs, usually absorbed in early childhood, and competes with our conscious mind in running our lives. To this end I would like to introduce you all to the Emotional Freedom Technique,
(EFT), endorsed by Dr. Lipton, which is a simple process, involving the Chinese acupuncture meridian system, for clearing negative beliefs and emotions, conscious and unconscious, from our systems. The website includes a tutorial on how to do the process which we can all do on ourselves for free, and what could be better that that? I highly recommend this!
And, here is a video of Dr. Lipton explaining his research, also highly recommended.

Body Atlas Reveals Where We Feel Happiness and Shame
This article is the result of studies that map the subjective experience of many subjects of where they feel specific emotions in their bodies. This bears out the theory of Chinese Medicine that asserts we are affected in various ways by different emotions.
Inherent in the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is that body, mind, spirit, and emotions are a seamless whole, one always affecting the other. It is also asserted that each of the 12 organ/meridian systems has its own emotion, that if felt too intensely or to excess will affect its correlate organ and the body in general in predictable ways. Fear affects the Kidney system, anger the Liver and so on. (And let's all remember that the organs in Chinese Medicine refer to a whole range of phenomena not recognized by Western medicine.) So, emotions are a CAUSE of disease and imbalance, and are actually considered the most significant and common causes of our maladies. Emotions, however, are also considered an EFFECT of organ imbalance, illustrating the reciprocal relationship between body and mind. Contemplate PMS for example, when one day we are fine, and the next, with a shift of hormone levels, irritability and teariness are present when nothing else has changed.
The good news is that TCM understands these relationships and can intervene to balance the organs so that emotions cannot get the best of us. Knowing how important our emotional lives are for our health in general, TCM is a wonderful option to treat many of our emotional issues. If you would like more detailed information on this aspect of the medicine along with descriptions of the "Seven Emotions" and their allied organ systems, please click here.

Scientific Proof Thought and Intentions Alter the Physical World Around Us
And last but certainly not least, is this article that
asserts the entirely profound and significant fact that our thoughts and emotions can literally affect the world around us. The information in this article is based on the work of Masaru Emoto, a Japanese researcher who has done some truly fascinating experiments. I will let the article speak for itself, as it is replete with lots of information and links. Happy reading and happy contemplating reality!
