Join ecologist Rob Clark on an insect-focused exploration of New Hartford forests and meadows. This guided hike is at the NHLT's Alfred Sabolcik Property, a parcel with varied terrain and lots of insect life that will demonstrate the role of insects in forest ecosystems. Rob will use entomological techniques for demonstrations. The program will cover a variety of topics including insect herbivores and their predators, native pollinators and parasitic insects. He will also discuss the consequences of invasive insects for native forest trees.
Rob is a PhD candidate at Wesleyan University, studying the ecology of forest caterpillars and ants. He is a Connecticut native, getting his start in ecology as a nature instructor at Camp Sequassen in New Hartford. Rob has been teaching about the ecology of local forests for many years: as a merit badge instructor, CFPA program host, CT DEEP park naturalist and an ecology lab instructor at CCSU and Wesleyan. He has also participated in many Bioblitz events. E-mail NHLT to pre-register or call 860-480-4844.
