Make a Call for Conservation in CT Today!
The CT General Assembly's 2015 Special Session will likely end early next week and budget decisions that affect conservation will be finalized. The CT Land Conservation Council (CLCC),
of which NHLT is a member, has
issued a final call to action for conservation.

Please read about the three key issues we are most concerned about and consider contacting our state legislators about them today. They directly affect the work of land trusts and other conservation organizations in CT.

Click here to find out why we:
  • Oppose Any Further Cuts to the Community Investment Act

  • Support the Bond Package to fund DEEP's Open Space & Watershed Land Acquisition (OSWLA) Grant Program and Recreational Trails Program (RTP); and, restoring funding for the Recreation & Natural Heritage Trust (RNHT) Program

  • Support the Amendment that removes three sections of concern from the Conveyance Act

Thank you!

Do something different this weekend . . . count birds!

Join Birder Extraordinaire
Fran Zygmont of the
Litchfield Hills Audubon Society
as he travels to various locations
around New Hartford for the annual, summer bird count. Please e-mail or
call us if you plan to join so we can
let you know where to meet, if
weather will cancel, etc. (Steady
rain does cancel.) It will also help
Fran to know the group size.

If you would like to accompany Fran at about 3:00 a.m. on Sunday looking for owls, let us know!

National Pollinator Week

was last week. To celebrate,

NHLT is donating some wonderful new books about pollinators for adults and children to the libraries in town. Check them out in a few weeks!

Thanks to the John T. and Jane A. Wiederhold Foundation, we are working to make our Alfred Sabolcik Property more attractive to pollinators and other wildlife. We have  purchased native meadow plant plugs from the New England Wildflower Society's Nasami Farm. If you can help dig in these plants that attract butterflies, bees and other native pollinators, please e-mail us.
