Fascinating Fungi:
A Mushroom Walk
Led by
Marlene Snecinski
(AKA 'Mushroom Marlene')
Naturalist and Mushroom Expert
Saturday, July 26th
9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
(Walk may last longer based on people's
interest, stay as long as you can!)
Have you always wanted to know more about the mushrooms and other fungi growing in our woodlands? Join NHLT and naturalist Marlene Snecinski, aka Mushroom Marlene, for a guided trail walk to identify and learn about wild mushrooms on Saturday, July 26th.
Marlene will tell us fascinating fungi facts including which ones are sought after as delicacies and which ones to avoid. Snecinski is a member of the Connecticut Valley Mycological Society and leads a variety of mushroom walks and programs throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts for land trusts, nature centers, and schools.
Wear appropriate shoes and clothing for the weather and to avoid mosquitoes. We recommend light-colored clothing, long sleeves and pants, bug spray, hat and boots to prevent ticks and other insect bites This will be an easy to moderate hike in New Hartford with some wet spots. We will generally be on the trail but you may want to go off trail to look at certain fungi.
We are limiting the number of participants to 25 for this program. Please e-mail NHLT or call 860-489-4118 as soon as possible if you plan to join to reserve a spot. Please provide your name and phone number or e-mail address. The Mushroom Hike will go forward if there is a light drizzle but will be postponed if raining. NHLT will send out an e-news if the walk is postponed.
NHLT will contact all pre-registrants a few days prior to the hike to let you know where to gather. We are still deciding between two good spots!

The Lucky 5 to Play at NHLT's Third Annual Fall Frolic
Save the Date - Saturday, October 18!
|

|
Mark your calendars and invite your friends! Join us on Saturday, October 18th, for a delicious harvest dinner, bonfire farm displays and door prizes and more at the NHLT's third annual Fall Frolic at Ski Sundown. After supper, you can listen or dance to the foot-stomping blend of hot swing and gypsy jazz played by our band for the evening, The Lucky 5. The band has a unique and diverse repertoire that appeals to a wide range of music lovers. Despite its name, the core of the band is a quartet that is known to respond to inquisitive audience members with the phrase "four is the new five". The Lucky 5 performs original compositions and puts their own spin on old jazz standards. Check out the band by clicking here.
The core of the band consists of Jonathan Talbott on violin, Don Mikkelsen on trombone, Kip Beacco on guitar and vocals, and Matt Downing on bass. The group brings verve, high energy, and an unpredictable impulse to the tradition of jazz from the 20's, 30's and 40's, grooving deeply, and keeping feet moving on the dance floor. Their music will turn the NHLT's Fall Frolic into a dance party after hors d'oeuvres and dinner! If weather permits, they will play outdoors.
Join us at Ski Sundown on Saturday, October 18th from 6-10 p.m. for great food (including vegetarian dishes), music, a bonfire and more! Watch your mail for an invitation. This event is family friendly with some fun activities for kids. Come out to support your Land Trust and enjoy an evening with friends and neighbors!
