Join NHLT for a Guided

Vernal Pool Visit

 Saturday, April 13th

9:00 a.m.

 109 East Cotton Hill Road

New Hartford

This is a private site with a lovely vernal pool in the woodland down a short slope behind the house.

The owners are graciously opening their property

for this visit only. Please do not enter at

any other times!

NHLT volunteer and New Hartford Conservation Commission Chair, Alison Murdock, will talk about vernal pools and the specifically evolved
amphibian life these temporary and seasonal wet areas support

including fairy shrimp, salamanders

and the wood frog. We will see

egg masses, larva, frogs and

other creatures.

Please wear sturdy shoes or boots and bring
a walking stick if you have one. We will
have some sticks to share. If you want to step into the pool, wear high boots or waders.
To see up close, bring a hand lens or telephoto camera. There should be good photo opportunities!

Directions:  From Route 202 in Bakersville,
turn south onto East Cotton Hill Road at
the blinking light.  Go about .4 miles to house number 109. Park on street just past driveway in front of white fence. Someone will direct you to other spots if needed.
