Dear Friends,
Please join the New Hartford Land Trust and the New Hartford Conservation Commission on Saturday morning at
9 a.m. for the annual fall cleanup at the Town of New Hartford's Jones Mountain Open Space Preserve. Come out and see the carriage roads lined with stonework and the view from the 'Bare Spot' (photo at right) while you help remove leaves from the old culverts and clean up the trails.
Paul Mahoney, Conservation Commission Vice Chair, will lead the work party and plans to finish work by noon or earlier. If we get enough volunteers, we can make short work of it. Come out for as much time as you can give.
There will be tasks for all abilities: clearing leaves from stone lined gutters and culverts and blown-down branches from trails.
Please bring a leaf rake or steel rake and water. Be sure to wear appropriate clothes: work gloves, jeans, and boots or sturdy shoes. If you have a gas-powered, backpack leaf blower, please bring it along.
Meet at the trailhead on Steele Road about 1+ miles from the intersection of Town Hill Road (Route 219) and Central Avenue at the Beekley Library. You will see parking on the left as you travel up Steele Road. Please park perpendicular to the road. For more information, please call Paul at 860-309-5724 or e-mail us.
Happy Thanksgiving!
