Save the Date! SL Year End Event - Dec. 20 |
Prepare now to end the calendar year smoothly in Microsoft Dynamics SL!
You and your staff are invited to join Boyer & Associates at the Microsoft Dynamics SL Year-End Closing Process event on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the Microsoft office in Edina from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. A box lunch is included and there is no fee for the event. The Microsoft Technology Center is located at 3601 West 76th Street, Suite 600, Edina, MN. Click here for directions.
We will discuss what steps should be completed and when and other items related to the closing of GL, AP, AR, Inventory, Cash Manager and Payroll for both Year End and Month End.
We will also discuss any changes to tax forms such as 1099's and W-2's.

Management Reporter Training - New Classes Offered! | |

This two-day class is ideal for the accountant who has had little formal training in Management Reporter, the new real-time financial reporting application from Microsoft. This class has sold out each of the past 4 months and will only be offered while there is enough interest. We limit the classroom to 6 students to guarantee a high quality hands-on class environment.
Management Reporter replaces FRx and has undo capabilities, a nicer user interface and the ability to group or organize reports in a more useful way. Discover the power and flexibility of reporting trees to present financial results at the responsibility level (i.e. by accounting segment or dimension and combinations thereof). Use report output and distribution options including Report Viewer. Topics to be covered include:
- Designing basic report building blocks in Report Designer with row definitions, column definitions, and reporting tree definitions.
- Associating the building blocks in a variety of report definitions including trial balance reports, income statements, variance reports, balance sheets and consolidation reports.

SL Tip of the Month - Utilizing the FREE Professional Services Tools Library (PSTL) |
D  id you know that you can now download the Microsoft "Professional Service Tools Library" (PTSL) for Dynamics SL for free? This handy application is actually a set of useful utility functions for combining or changing key values of master records within Dynamics SL (think customer IDs, vendor IDs, account numbers, etc.). The tool also has a function for recalculating 1099 balances for a vendor. To utilize PTSL an installation process is run on each workstation where the application will be launched from. The modifier/combiner functions are very powerful, so make sure to have a backup prior to using. Also, no users should be logged into Dynamics during the process of changing or combining records.
In the example screen shot shown above, two customer IDs in Dynamics will be combined into a single customer entity of "CT0110". Once the process has been run, the "old" customer, "CT0100" will no longer exist and all history that had been linking to the "CT0100" will now be updated to reflect the new ID of "CT0110". NOTE: If your organization has custom database tables in your Dynamics SL database, the PSTL may potentially update those custom tables, so be careful to test out the modifier or combiner prior to making any production database changes. |

Online Self-Service Portal for Payroll | |
The Greenshades Online Employee Portal is an employee intranet and self-service website hosted by Greenshades Software. Your Dynamics accounting system automatically synchronizes data with our portal thereby allowing employees to access payroll information from any computer or smartphone. The portal iss designed for self-service and allows employees to submit documents for approval by managers or administrators which are then automatically downloaded into Dynamics.
The Greenshades Online Employee Portal is synchronized with Dynamics SL: New paychecks, updated time-off balances, W-2s and more are uploaded automatically. Your employees can securely log into our portal and view and print this information as well as read company bulletins, set up email alerts, and see rich information such as a graph of time-off available throughout the past year. New Dynamics SL 2011 Year-End Updates | |
The Microsoft Dynamics SL 2012 Year End updates will be released for the following versions:
- 7.0 Service Pack 3
- 7.0 Service Pack 4
- 2011
- 2011 Service Pack 1
NOTE: Microsoft will provide a 2012 Year-End Update to all U.S Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 Customers who are on SL 7 SP3 or SL 7 SP4. Microsoft will also provide U.S. tax table updates in December for the 2013 Payroll reporting year for SL 7 (SP3 and SP4). Following these releases, no additional code update will be released for Microsoft Dynamics SL 7, due to end of Mainstream Support in the Support Lifecycle for Microsoft Dynamics SL 7. If you are currently using Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0, you must upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics SL 2011 to receive any further regulatory and or code updates following the December Tax Updates. |
