I hope you are enjoying the last few weeks of summer. We are winding down our full day summer programs with some participants already heading back to school. Where does the time go? The children and adults enjoyed their summer adventure which included community outings, field trips, BBQ's, and much more!

Suzanna Neher inherited an affinity for community
service from both of her parents. Her father was a judge, and her mother an active volunteer throughout her life. A former child actor and long-time volunteer herself, Suzanna says, "I've had the coolest life ever." She contacted AbilityFirst two years ago, bringing a love of learning and a commitment to advocacy from her professional life and 25 years of volunteer service. Her mother had volunteered at another Pasadena agency that serves individuals with developmental disabilities, and Suzanna decided to look for a similar experience. Read More

The Long Beach Center Guild of AbilityFirst requests the pleasure of your company at our Fashion Show, Luncheon and Silent Auction on Saturday, October 18, 2014. For 35 years, the Center Guild of AbilityFirst has raised funds to directly support and enrich the services offered at the AbilityFirst Long Beach Center. This year, proceeds from our Fashion Show will be used to improve the playground area of our Center. These improvements will provide a safer and more accessible area for the growing number of participants currently in our After School Program.

AbilityFirst was established in 1926 and known as the Crippled Children's Society of Southern California (CCS) for many decades. Lawrence L. Frank and Paul Dietrich, both Rotarians, were two of the original founders of the organization and they continued their loyal support throughout their lives. Operating in the greater Los Angeles area, AbilityFirst has 25 facilities which support individuals with disabilities through after school enrichment programs, job training, community employment, accessible camping, and affordable and accessible housing. AbilityFirst is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and the American Camping Association (ACA). Some facilities are licensed by the California Department of Social Services and the Department of Developmental Services.
