I have a huge selection of artist seals or chops. Using the seal as an integral part of the composition in ink painting is uniquely Asian. To authenticate and to show approval of his/her work, the artist uses a personal seal in red along with his signature.
In addition to the personal signature and seal, most traditional Chinese brush artists use seals to enhance their compositions.
Antiquity, artistry, and the quality of the material from which a seal is carved determine it's value.

It's me, Gabe, your favorite service dog.
In Memory
This edition of the sumi-e newsletter is dedicated to the memory of Hank. Hank was Casey's long time service dog and partner for over 10 years. I met Hank and he was a very special dog. Hank was enjoying his golden years of retirement with Casey's family in Los Angeles. Hank left us on May 11, 2013 at the age of 15. He passed away peacefully in his own bed being petted and loved.
A special soul.
