Hello everyone. Spring has sprung! Oh happy day! This is one of my favorite seasons to paint. It is an honor for me to have this opportunity to communicate with you this month and to be able to share the latest news from the studio.

Now, it's that time for us to journey together into art.
Shall we begin?

I am very pleased to announce that my artwork will be featured in the summer edition of CARMEL MAGAZINE! My work is featured with some other local Monterey Peninsula artists. Here is a sneak peek of the full article page. My work is bottom left. I am the only sumi-e artist featured.

Carmel Magazine is the magazine of the Monterey Peninsula for interesting information and this edition will have an 8 page spread on Carmel Valley which will feature this page!

Daffodil Garden of Eden
An Etegami Example by Casey Shannon

Etegami Fun
Called "Daffodil, Garden of Eden"
A Postcard

Do you know what Etegami is?

Etegami literally means "picture letter". Basically Etegami are small primitive like paintings outlined then painted.  They often depict some ordinary item from everyday life, although seasonal flowers, vegetables, and fruit are extremely popular themes. Etegami is painted in a loose style and must have a saying or poem or phrase etc. and be signed with a chop or seal. The painting is supposed to be on a postcard like size and sent to someone - which is similar to artist trading cards (ACEO). Some people make a book of their work and never send it.

Below is a sweet video of the Etegami Story

Etegami Style Painting

This style of painting is fun, free, and loose. Watch Chinese painter Henry Li of Blue Heron Arts demonstrate this style. He paints a fish and then inscribes the painting with Chinese characters and explains them for us.

Hello Everyone!

It's me, Gabe, your favorite service dog. Casey and I have been crazy busy this semester teaching at the college. Man, we have a lot of students in our classes this time around. Hardly gives me a chance to chase a ball or chew on a stick!

This is Mobility Awareness Month and I have a special request to ask of you all. My training school needs a new mobility van and your vote will help them get it. Please vote for Will Maurer, the co-founder of HCI. Please click on the following vote link, read the story, and vote. You can vote every day until May 10th.

This is my friend Tucker.
I don't mind begging....please vote EVERY DAY until May 10th for Hawaii Canines For Independence to get a much needed wheelchair accessible van. Thank you SO much!!!
