Sewer Project to Affect Vernon Hills Parks

sewer map

The Lake County Board has approved the award of the Diamond/Sylvan Lake Diversion Project Phase III construction contract to Western Utility Contractors, Inc.

The project includes the installation of a new 24-inch diameter sanitary sewer in an easement through the Vernon Hills Park District's Deerpath and Kelli Garvanian Parks.

Preliminary construction activities, such as clearing of vegetation and installation of silt fence, will begin around October 1. Pipe installation will begin around October 8.

The installation of the new sanitary sewer will be done by directional boring. This is a trenchless technique that will help reduce the impact to the project area. However, large excavations will still be required at manholes, with smaller, more contained excavations in between manholes.

The Park District walking path between the southern side of Deerpath Park and the Kelli Garvanian Park will be closed while construction is under way. There will be temporary chain link fence installed to separate the construction area from other park facilities.

A temporary access path between the Kelli Garvanian Park playground and sidewalk adjacent to Deerpath Drive will be installed. Construction detour signs will give notice and direction regarding the walking path closures.

Once construction is complete, the walking path in the construction area will receive a fresh 2-inch overlay of new asphalt.

If you have any questions or concerns during construction please call 847.377.7133 or email RRietveld@lakecountyil.gov or feel free to contact me at alawlor@lakecountyil.gov or at 847.971.0454.

PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENT UPDATE: Libertyville Deadline Approaching,
Ela and Vernon Township Assessment Notices To Be Mailed

While I don't have a role in determining your assessment, I am here to act as your advocate and help you learn about the appeal process.

It is also important for you to know that each unit of government on your tax bill has a separate board that sets their own tax rate based on their budget, levy and tax cap. The county and forest preserve account for approximately 10% of your overall property tax bill and have worked to cut millions of dollars from our budget.

The Chief County Assessment Office will hold two public information meetings and 18 tax assessment help centers this fall to help residents understand their property assessment.

View the full list of outreach sessions.

I encourage to you attend one of our outreach sessions to receive one-on-one assistance with understanding your assessment as well as the appeal process.  The sessions are held every Thursday in September and October from 5-8 PM at the College of Lake County's Southlake Campus at 1120 South Milwaukee Avenue in Vernon Hills.
