Spring break is only a couple months away for for a majority of area schools. Each year, many residents forget to check the expiration date on their passports.
There are a few different options depending on how much time you have until your trip.
IF YOUR TRIP IS MORE THAN A MONTH AWAY
If you need to apply for a new passport, or renew your existing passport, you can visit the U.S. State Department website to get an updated passport by mail or at a Passport Application Acceptance Facility.
IF YOU HAVE APPLIED AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED YOUR PASSPORT
Did you know your Congressman and Senators can assist you if you need a passport within 48 hours of travel? They also provide assistance if you have already applied for a new or renewed passport and are have to received it in the time specified.
If your passport is expired and you need immediate assistance, please contact your Congressman or one of our US Senators.

Things you will need to receive a passport within 48 hours of travel:
- Your expired passport
- Two passport photos
- Your travel itinerary

DO YOU NEED A COPY OF YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE OR VITAL RECORD?
In order to apply for a passport for the first time, you wil need to provide proof of your U.S. citizenship. If you were born in Lake County, you can obtain an official copy of your birth certificate through the Lake County Clerk's office. The County Clerk's office also maintains a number of vital records.
