This edition of Merit Minute is intended to help you and your employees become informed on the ballot proposal and candidates on the ballot for the Aug. 5 primary election. It is crucially important that we support the candidates that are proven to be supporters of the Merit Shop and will continue to help our state grow.  

Yes on Proposal 1

On the August 5 primary election ballot there is an important statewide ballot proposal that needs our support to modernize taxes in Michigan. Proposal 1 will end the job-killing personal property tax that has hurt our businesses for decades. We encourage you to vote "YES" on Proposal 1. Learn more here.

Governor Snyder and the legislature have been working hard to make our state more competitive for jobs and businesses - but this personal property tax is an unfair double tax on businesses. On August 5, Proposal 1 gives us a chance to get rid of this dumb tax in Michigan.

Voting "YES" on Proposal 1 will create up to 15,000 Michigan jobs and increase business investment by $450 million.

The personal property tax served as a disincentive for businesses to locate in Michigan, and discouraged companies already here from purchasing equipment that helps them grow and create more and better jobs.
