More about Prevailing Wage

Governor Snyder to Address ABC Members

Governor Rick Snyder (R) will address ABC members at the 2014 ABC of Michigan Legislative Day on March 19, 2014. Tickets are now available for the annual event.

The annual event draws contractors, associate members and legislators to Lansing for an informative session on legislative issues, state and federal elections, and legal and regulatory updates. For 2014, the event is morning-only, starting with an early informal breakfast with legislators. This breakfast event will give attendees plenty of opportunities to network and engage legislators on the issues important to ABC members. After breakfast, attendees will listen to Gov. Snyder's remarks along with a short Q&A session.

Following the Governor's remarks, a second speaker (name announcement coming soon!) will speak on federal elections and what we can do to add a pro-business, pro-Michigan voice to federal office. Finally, a panel of four experienced labor and employment attorneys will host a discussion on legal issues that impact your business, including Right to Work, PLAs, Prevailing Wage, and Obamacare. Bring your questions!

Watch for the registration form in your mailbox soon, or register now and reserve your seat at this exciting event. Early bird rate expires soon!

MIOSHA Reminds Employers of Injury/Illness Posting Requirements
Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) Director Martha Yoder reminds Michigan employers they are required to post the total number of job-related injuries and illnesses that occurred in 2013. Employers must post the MIOSHA Form 300A (Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses) for three months, from February 1 to April 30, 2014.

MIOSHA requires most Michigan employers with 11 or more employees to log and maintain records of work-related injuries and illnesses, and to make those records available during MIOSHA inspections of the workplace. MIOSHA notes that an important component to an employer's total safety and health effort is accurate record- keeping. Here's why:
  • Conscientious and detailed records can provide employers with a clear picture of their work environment, and can help prevent work-related injuries and illnesses in the future.
  • Injury and illness data can help identify problem areas. The more you know, the better you can identify and correct hazardous workplace conditions.
  • Employers can better administer company safety and health programs with accurate records.
  • As employee awareness about injuries, illnesses, and hazards in the workplace increases, workers are more likely to follow safe work practices and report workplace hazards.

Employers with 10 or fewer employees and employers in certain industry groups (retail trade, finance, insurance and real estate, and certain services industries) are normally exempt from the MIOSHA recordkeeping and posting requirements. These exemptions do not exclude any employer from coverage by MIOSHA or from compliance with all applicable safety and health standards.

Recordkeeping information is available on the MIOSHA website at www.michigan.gov/recordkeeping
