The 2012 Election Results Are In...

ABC is proud to announce that 71% of ABCMI PAC dollars spent in the General Election on Tuesday supported winning candidates. Although a few of our pro-business, merit shop defenders lost their highly contested races, we are happy to say that the Republicans hold a 59-51 majority in the State House.

Retaining a Republican majority in the House is very important to the future of Michigan. Our elected officials are able to continue on their path to reinvent our state and create a better business climate here in Michigan.

The success of PAC would not have been possible if it weren't for the committed members of ABC of Michigan.   Your contributions have made a tremendous difference in Michigan!

Michigan Voters Reject All Ballot Proposals

On Tuesday, Michigan voters made their voices heard when they rejected all 6 proposals that appeared on the General Election Ballot. Most importantly, voters stood up to the union power grab and defeated Proposal 2, the collective bargaining proposal, by a 58-42 margin.

"This election showed that an overwhelming number of Democrat and Republican voters alike rejected union boss attempts to hijack Michigan's constitution," said Chris Fisher, president of ABC of Michigan. "Time and time again voters are standing up for the merit shop principles of fair competition, fiscal accountability and equal opportunity regardless of union affiliation."

ABC of Michigan cannot thank our dedicated members enough who contributed their time, money, and resources to battle this special interest handout. If passed, Proposal 2 would have not only overturned the Fair and Open Competition in Governmental Construction Act, but also would have:

  • Prevented Michigan from ever becoming a right to work state;
  • made prevailing wage elimination impossible;
  • nullified Michigan's Paycheck Protection law;
  • eliminated requirements that government retirees contribute to their health care and pensions;
  • eliminated seven sections of the state constitution that unions dislike; and
  • eliminated at least 170 state laws.

ABC Members Appointed to Board of Mechanical Rules

ABC of Michigan is thrilled to announce Governor Snyder's appointment of Richard Dvorak of Answer Heating and Cooling and Craig Howson of Three Rivers Corporation to Michigan's Board of Mechanical Rules.

Housed within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, the 15-member board makes recommendations for mechanical code rules and issues mechanical contractors licenses to qualified applicants.

"These appointees are experienced professionals and outstanding choices for this board," said Snyder.

Richard Dvorak, of Saginaw, recently retired as owner and vice president of operations for Freeland-based Answer Heating and Cooling, where he served for more than 35 years. Dvorak held various leadership positions with the Tri County Heating and Plumbing Association, Air Conditioning Contractors of America - Michigan and Associated Builders and Contractors - Saginaw Valley Chapter. He will represent unlimited service heating and refrigeration and replaces Raymond Coy.

Craig Howson, of Midland, is the industrial operations manager for Three Rivers Corp., where he has worked since 1986. Previously, he held the positions of mechanical division manager, mechanical project manager, senior mechanical estimator and mechanical trades craftsman. Howson is a licensed mechanical contractor and holds an associate degree from Delta College. He will represent refrigeration service and replaces Henry Bartram.

Appointees will serve four-year terms that expire Oct. 1, 2016, and their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

If you see Richard or Craig, be sure to congratulate them on their new positions!
