The Huron Shores Golf Club has taken on some exciting new staff and they are anxious to share the news with the readers of the Port Sanilac Portal.
Many of our readers will be interested to hear that Chef Sean O'Rourke has taken over leadership of the kitchens at the golf course. Chef O'Rourke started his culinary career as a young man, age 11, in various kitchens throughout Detroit. He was fortunate enough to be influenced by Master Chef, Leapold Shaeli and Master Chef, Milos Cihelki when he joined the Michigan Chefs De Cuisine Organization at age 17. Chef started his apprenticeship as a culinarian at the Tournament Players Club of Michigan. While at the T.P.C., Chef O'Rourke was asked and honored to fly to many championship golf tournaments as the gourmet chef to the players. In culinary school, Chef O'Rourke excelled and competed in Ice Sculpting, Pastries, Cold Food and Hot Food Competitions earning many medals. He won the National Hot Food Championship in '95 and brought home a silver and bronze medal as a member of the Michigan Culinary Team that competed in the Culinary Olympics in Berlin, Germany '96.
The dining room is now open Monday through Saturday from 11:00am to 9:00pm, and Sunday from 11:00am to 3:00pm. Stop in for fabulous meals and beautiful views. You won't go away disappointed!
Out on the links Jeff Sobczak is now leading the way as the club's Director of Golf and PGA Professional. Jeff Sobczak was born and raised in Warren, Michigan and began his golf career as a caddie at Birmingham Country Club at the age of 11. After playing four years of Varsity Golf at Bishop Foley High School, he went on to Eastern Michigan University for a year and eventually, successfully completed the Professional Golf Management Program at Ferris State University.While serving an internship at Oakland Hills Country Club in 1984, he captured his first Michigan PGA title. In 1985, he turned professional at the age of 20 and became a member of the PGA five years later. After 22 years of playing, educating, and working at a variety of golf facilities, he was elected to Life Membership status in the PGA of America. As a result of his extensive playing and teaching experience, Jeff has developed a keen eye for the "Modern Golf Swing." His teaching philosophy is based on solid fundamentals to encourage an effortless utilization of the body and arms to create a sound, repetitive golf swing.
