Consolidating Optical Fiber Count to Increase Productivity
While loose tube cable can be a great option for anything under 144 fibers, when it comes to fiber density, ribbon fiber cable is the ultimate solution. Throughout fiber networks that contain Passive Optical Network (PON) or a Fiber to the "X" (FTTx) architectures, performance is of critical nature. This includes large data centers and Storage Area Network (SAN) locations where high fiber counts exist. These networks can run 10Gbps, 40Gbps and up to 100Gbps traffic. Unlike loose tube cable, ribbon cable allows for the splicing, testing, cleaning and terminating of 12 or more fibers simultaneously, notably reducing the amount of resources and increasing productivity in the field. With ribbon fiber cabling your company will be able to:
- Reduce the amount of real estate required
- Reduce costs and man hours
- Drastically improve performance
As ribbon fiber technology is being deployed, it is imperative that the proper test and measurement tools be implemented in order to have a successful install while maintaining maximum performance. Precision Rated Optics has developed the following MPO product solution for mass ribbon splicing and testing processes:
OFS-950R Ribbon Fiber Splicer | The OFS-950R Ribbon Fusion Splicer addresses the high demand for ribbon splicing, which is becoming more common in the industry. Its ergonomic "all-in-one" design allows a technician to complete all five splicing operations (stripping, cleaning, cleaving, splicing and sleeving) quickly and conveniently.
|
| The VIP-35-MPO allows the technician to actively view all 12 fibers ensuring their quality within the MPO connectors. |
| The CS-MPO Quick Click™ can clean all 12 fibers within the MPO/MTP connector with one click. Over 75% of network complications are the result of contaminated connectors. | OLM-302A MPO Loss Test Set | The PRO OLM-302A Lost Test Set includes a light source and power meter. This set allows the technician the ability to test 12 fibers simultaneously, which provides the qualification standard of the network prior to commissioning. |
| After downloading the results to the network, FiberBase can be used to store the data for network planners and network engineers, who can use the data for system grooming, upgrades and maintenance.

Break and Event Locators
Choose the one that's right for you
OBL-201A, OFL-301B, PRO-5350
When it comes to finding faults and breaks in an optical span, there are a few ways in getting the job done - the oldest and still most preferred method is using an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR). Although this is the oldest method, it is also the most expensive. But did you know you now have options? In addition to an OTDR, you can also quickly (5 sec.) find fiber breaks (OBL-201A) and fiber faults (OFL-301B) up to the break/end of the optical span. Depending on your application and need to document the optical span, the OTDR (PRO-5350), can protect your project's budget. Our highly-trained team of product experts can help you through the process of choosing the right product solution to fit your immediate need and future growth.
