Environmental regulatory authorities take spill reporting very seriously. Some jurisdictions have a very tight deadline for phoning in spill reports before incurring a fine for late reporting. In Massachusetts, the window is only two hours after the spill occurs. Fines and penalties for late reporting or failing to report can be stiff. And insurance companies do not pay fines and penalties for non-compliance with reporting regulations.
Reporting is an important aspect of the Spill Center™ program. We maintain a database with the latest regulations and contact information for some 30,000 jurisdictions throughout North America requiring reports after environmental releases. That is a valuable asset to our clients because, depending on the location and type of spill, up to a dozen different reports might be required.
A spill in one of the five boroughs of New York City, for example, might require reports to be made to county, state and federal authorities - plus the NYC Department of Environmental Protection. Failure to make the DEP report can cost $25,000 a day, with each day being a separate violation.
Spill Center compliance associates routinely complete required incident reports, both by telephone and in writing on incident report forms as part of Spill Center's program of spill-related services for clients. We complete more than 300 incident reports each month, more reports for clients than any other organization in North America.
Because we continuously review and update environmental regulatory requirements, our clients can rest assured that their spill reports will go to the right authorities within the time specified, avoiding fines and penalties for non-compliance.
Spill Center clients benefit from our nearly three decades of proven innovation and reliable performance designed to help them contain spill-related costs and limit any potential liability after environmental releases. We're on the job for you 24/7, 365 days a year.
