 Fresh Garlic Salad Dressing
 
 Ingredients

 

6 T organic extra virgin olive oil 
 
1 T red wine vinegar 
 
1 T Dijon mustard 
 
1-2 freshly crushed garlic bulbs 
 
Dash of pepper and salt
 

Directions
 
Blend well and enjoy on your favorite green salad!

Cereals 


One of the most profitable businesses for food manufacturers is cereal. It's one of the only industries that can turn an inexpensive ingredient (i.e. processed grains) into a pricey commodity. The R&D department for General Mills, called the institute of Cereal Technology and located in Minneapolis, is home to hundreds of scientists whose sole purpose is to design new and tasty cereals that can command a high price and last a long time on the shelves. 

 

Unfortunately the "nutrition" is all synthetic vitamins and inorganic minerals. Many of these cereals are formulated for adult levels of vitamins and minerals. This can result in an overdosing of these damaging vitamins and minerals to children. In addition, the increase load of carbohydrate is just one more source of elevated blood sugar.

Garlic Benefits 
  

Garlic has many health benefits. I recently read an article from Dr Mercola about these benefits. Here are the cliff notes of his article:

Many of garlic's therapeutic effect comes from its sulfur-containing compounds, such as allicin, which are also what give it its characteristic smell.

Garlic has immune-boosting properties and is beneficial for heart health, fighting cancer, warding off colds and flus, and reducing inflammation.

As allicin in the garlic gets digested in your body, it produces sulfenic acid, a compound that reacts with dangerous free radicals more effectively than any other known compound.

Black (fermented) garlic and sprouted garlic may have even more health potential than fresh garlic.

To get the therapeutic benefits of garlic, be sure to crush the clove before you eat it; this stimulates the release of an enzyme called allinase, which in turn catalyzes the formation of allicin.

Holidays are days for establishing traditions! I love that our son and daughter-in-law love to work together in the kitchen. Take a look at this scrumptious dessert they made for a fun family holiday get together...not only looks delicious but looks like a much healthier option than many they could have chosen. But, more than what they chose to create, the time spent together is the most important part of relationship building. And sharing it with others made it even more special for everyone!
