We are off to a great start for 2014. We have some sweet new releases that are better than chocolate...well...almost. How about the open top Hoppers from Frisco...better than Ghirardelli Square Chocolate...yeah? How about the CWRR Diesel Locomotive or ARR Modern Hood Locomotive Heralds. We are also featuring the ACME Foods Trailers and a great article by Elizabeth Allen modeling an Arcata & Mad River ACF Double Door Boxcar. As you can see we have a sweet line-up for you this month, so don't forget to buy that box of chocolate for your significant other.

Happy Modeling!

Arcata & Mad River ACF Double Door Boxcar

By Elizabeth Allen

To accompany the 87-1452 and 60-1452 decal sheets being released this month, that have both California Western and Arcata & Mad River locomotives. Elizabeth Allen's terrific model of an Arcata & Mad River ACF Double Door Boxcar makes an excellent demonstration of prototype modeling. Her in progress modeling photos of this car are found on her pbase gallery http://www.pbase.com/elizabethallen/amr_1066. Her amazing eye for detail capture accurately the actual car. The ACF double door prototypes are not available as RTR. One must perform a kitbash in order to accurately reflect these boxcars. There have been stand-in cars produced from FMC models but are not accurate for the Arcata & Mad RIver.

She used Microscale decals for the bulk of the lettering. One could utilize set 87-1422 or 60-1422 to letter their own version of this boxcar.

The prototype cars were found all over the United States and Canada. Their "incentive per diem" status kept them active all over the continental US on all major railroads.
